I loved Keegan as a manager (he was a player before my time and obviously a great one). His teams played really good football and you always knew you were in for a treat when you watched them. It's a shame Saudi Sportswashing Machine never won the league but I hope Keegan the Manager gets remembered as a successful one rather than one who is caricatured by his "I'll love it" rant or resigning in the rain at Wembley. He did very well at Saudi Sportswashing Machine and did good jobs at Fulham and City too. He wasn't in the Fergie, Wenger etc. class but he was no mug either and he played the game the way I love seeing it played. His Saudi Sportswashing Machine team was almost the club version of Brazil 1982.

Seemed a terrific bloke and personality too. RIP.

As a kid, him and Trevor Brooking were the 2 players that drew my attention when they were playing for England. Very good player and a good manager and all round nice bloke. Rip.
 
I just wanted to pay my respect to one of the greatest players of his generation. He comes from a time when football was a much simpler and freer. Football used to be a working man's game and Keegan always struck me as a good example of what football should be: not a science, not an industry, but rather a game where skill, imagination, determination and inspiration are all that matters.

He will be missed.

That perm...the grazed shoulder after falling off his bike on Superstars...Patrick Super Keegans, THE football boot we all begged for...classic mullets...pocket rocket energy...7...shirtless at Wembley having swung at Billy...that England Admiral shirt which stuck to his supremely chiseled torso...effort...energy...always seemed to be smiling...Shankley's child?...that umbro Liverpool shirt...Hamburg Hamburg Hamburg (how exotic and weird it seemed)...that beautiful wreckless Saudi Sportswashing Machine...did he out Sclamhorpe on the map?...

For those of an age, Kevin Keegan was ubiquitous with childhood from an era where there was no internet to constantly 'sell' people. A boot endorsement, 'that' TV show, and his energetic footballing talent. Good grief, I even know that his wife's name is Jean!!!!

For those of an age, this is a bigger loss than we maybe thought it would be. Because Kevin Keegan really was the first true English football superstar we had ever really known.
