Genuine question as someone that doesn't know a great deal about it:

Are there real benefits to owning this land? Is there any great economical or other benefit, or is it more about 'bragging rights'?

They have a 'right' to advance an argument that the islands should belong to Argentina. From what I've read their argument is not obviously unreasonable or illogical. The problem is that the historical arguments have been cherry-picked by both parties to suit their claims. The right of self determination for the current population of the islands is a pretty powerful factor but again I can see why Argentina would feel that is an inbuilt bias. I don't see any way to resolve the competing claims.

Other than them being close to Argentina mainland i don't see the logic in their claim. Falklands were already a British outpost when Argentina was founded as a country

It's a bit more complicated than that. I particularly like the bit where we abandoned the islands for 59 years during which time our only claim to sovereignty was that we had left behind a flag and a plaque claiming it.

It was a Spanish overseas territory that Britain inhabited on the sly and then asserted ownership. Spain were contested this British claim to the island and Argentina once they separated from Spain inherited their claim.

It’s rather flippant but I like to say that if the Hispanic majority Argentines hand the land mass now known as Argentina back to the indigenous peoples then they can come and live in the Falklands

Yes, he is the only dirty player in the EPL. I sense emotional decisions being made on this thread. Captain Cuti Romero is a Spurs player and has been unfairly treated in the EPL. He is a world class defender who has made errors like every other defender. He was one of the team who won us our Europa League! I hope he stays at Spurs!
So do i mate.

I never said he was the only dirty player in the Premier League. Players like Van Dijk and Gabriel might get away with murder at times, but that doesn't mean Romero is being treated unfairly. If anything, it just highlights the lack of consistency. I'd even argue the players I mentioned get more favourable treatment because they play for bigger clubs.

Romero has built a reputation as a dirty player over several years because he regularly makes reckless, unnecessary challenges. Just think back to his tackle on Richarlison when he was at Everton—the ball was already going out of play, but Romero still couldn't resist the opportunity to clean out a Brazilian.

As much as I think it’s time for him to move on, there is nobody I would want more in our team for a cup final or end-of-season title challenge.

The flip side of that is he is not the guy for a meaningless cold, Wednesday night game at Hull.

The other problem being he often wouldn't be around for such games because he's suspended or injured like he was so often.

You know, like for the end of season relegation scrap for the last 6 games where he was missing and we got 11 points - a far greater return than we had been getting with him in the side....
