World Cup 2026: Mexico, USA and Canada

I was in Moscow in 2018. The complete lack of dealing with the yellow card incidences in the first half changed that game. I saw it with my own eyes. I think the worse one was probably the delayed Euro's in 2021. That Italy game saw some facrical refereeing and cost us the game. We shouldn't have been playing against 11 men. In terms of France, it was the massive incident where the goal was given due to FIFA/IFAB changing the rules away from the spirit of the game. That France goal should never have been allowed.

I think we have to remember that it was the corrupt Brits that run FIFA for too long and there has been an agenda against us for a very long time since. It's about putting us back in our place, not forgetting and moving on. We have to also remember that there is a major war going on between FIFA and UEFA about who is getting the money. Those 2 organisations hate each other. FIFA and Infantino is also very Trump like in the way it behaves. It's command and control, and even came up with their own way of defining carbon neutral in Qatar. That industry lambasted them for that. They didn't care.

You will never get a level playing field with either of these organisations. You should never expect genuine football fans to like me to do anything other than hate what they stand for.

It must be absolutely maddening to be so convinced the world is against you.

Nope, it will be Eng vs Arg + FIFA, just like it was Eng vs CRO + FIFA in 2018 and Eng vs FRA + FIFA in 2022.

It will feel absolutely amazing beating 12 men on Weds.
You think the officiating is against England or pro others because you're English. Objectively everyone has had some decisions go their way and some against. England are no more victims then anyone else.

Look at the last England match, Norway came away from that feeling very aggrieved, but I imagine you probably don't think they have a case again likely because it was to the team you supports benefit.

WALOB.
If fifa really wanted England out they'd be out.
The Norwegian goal would have stood and Norway had a very good shout for a pen, a much better one than the one on spence.

It is just confirmation bias. All Sports fans do it. Spurs have had some notable stinky decisions against us, so confirmation bias leads us to notice and remember other decisions that support what we already believe, i.e. that we are being targeted, while overlooking those decisions that don’t.

I like a good moan about the ref as much as the next person, but I do it by reflex rather than subscribe to the notion that there is a plot against my team. I like to see it as part of the sport :)

In the heat of the moment we all do it, it's a coping mechanism.
It's not healthy to hold on it.

Indeed. And I think authorities have made it much harder for refs with the constant changing and adjusting of rules, and an utopian strive for perfection in officiating.
Yeh, I think thats 100% true.

I will say that Argentina seem to have been VERY lucky in their decisions and say no more

I think the PL last year was massively inconsistent

I agree, and as Robbo says above all of the rule changes and things make it an impossible job. I think that's in part brought on because of the scrutiny (shows dedicated to analysing decisions, past refs becoming talking heads etc). But I think the overall standard would not have changed too much -- or possibly even got better -- since the 2000s, 90s etc.

Not to make this another "I hate VAR" thread, I do think the introduction and scrutiny, along with the second guessing it brings, well I think its killed the standard, when it was intro'd to do the opposite

The refs so far have not been against any team
But there has been a few favourable calls going the way of certain bigger nations and players
That’s as much human nature as anything imo

How Messi didn't get sent off for the studs-on-the-calf challenge in their first game, one cannot explain.
Plus, Embolo: was his 'move' any different to any typical South American in most of the games, especially Argentinians? I'm sure i saw at least one similar theatrical fall like that against Cape Verde where the Cape Verde got a yellow card for it and NO VAR review at all...go figure.

Just looking at the (in)consistencies with how Argentinian matches are refereed and VAR'd is ample to get "conspiracy theories" started

100% the bigger and better sides typically get the decisions moreso than the smaller teams/nations.

Personally I don't think he should have been sent off so the decision was correct. Balaogun also shouldn't have been sent off for the same thing, it's not an intentional challenge so how you going send someone off for putting their foot down and accidentally catching the other player.
