A dream midfield for me would be…

Wharton, Gray, Scott …. Sounds like a group of explorers

But all 3 are technically strong and play heads up football

Alternatives who we would get for the Wharton role are Tyler Morton who is doing great in France and Hackney (not the sense stylistically)

We do have Scott like players here already

I would love the club to be brave and maybe seek Bergvall and Sarr and use that to find scott. Sure that will get detractors and Sarr and Bergvall and great players but smart selling is something that the very best do…. And we don’t
Love this!
We’d then hire Dewsbury-Hall as official photographer.

I agree. Like yourself I really, really like both of them (and would not be unhappy if they stayed) and if we could get good money and upgrade, it'd be great to do so. I think De Zerbi will make a few eyebrow-raising decisions personally. It's going to be an interesting summer.

So you're saying

Gray Wharton Scott?

...and then we could maybe have a front line of

Kudus/ Gonzales/ Rafael Leao???? I know, I know...we'd be looking at buying:

Gonzales
Leao
Wharton
Scott

Probably what, 300 mill there? In which case we'd need to get half of that back in sales, so Romero, a surprise to us all like a Bergvall, possibly a Sarr too, one of Richy or Solanke...I mean, it's doable but yeah, I'm probably drifting into dreaming a bit here...

I think Gonzales would be a marvelous buy and have to say, that'd be all about big money wouldn't it, because he would miss European football (albeit he is not a starter for PSG). I'd personally love Barcola over Leao but even I think that's a step too far in the dreamtakes LOL...

I do think some players will be made available from PsG as they will be making some refreshes

It's difficult to be onboard with wanting certain players sold (Bergvall, Sarr etc), as their environment in recent seasons has been desperate/chaotic...so it's almost like they are victims of the situation rather than moved on after fair personal assessment, which could be coming if RDZ is our first talented manager in a while. It also risks missing out in their potential.

Besides, there are plenty we can sell.

I would loan Bergvall out next season to a PL club, he needs minutes which I dont think he will get here

Sarr needs to be moved on, he has not progressed (not all his fault as you say) but he needs a fresh start and we can get a decent fee for him

Hope we sign Palhinha. Hope we don't sell anyone really, apart from releasing Muani. Just buy some quality additions and have a big squad until we figure out our injury issues.

We've got something like 42 over 21s on our books. 4 will be gone automatically when their contracts expire this month (Maunai, Palhinha, Davies and Biss). We need a net reduction of at least 15 though. De Zerbi is known for preferring a tight 2 for each position squad.

Wharton Scott Gray seems a little light weight in terms of pace and power in the middle of the park in the league, but it’s certainly an upgrade

Give him one half season until the January window with a big squad, then he can settle on a tight 2 if that's what he wants. To improve this squad, we need to add to it, rather than just change it, as that just means more adjustment and a reset again, rather than it evolving.
The half season of bloated salaries will not be anywhere near as expensive as what relegation would have been, or could be. Let's give him the best springboard we can.

He has already made the point he only wants to keep 12 of these players, if the man wants more to go, he has earned the right to shape the squad how he wishes

We can only register 17 non-HG players. So would you want a group of 12-15 more stinking out the training ground, who aren't actually eligible to play games?

Not sure who you are including, but it certainly didn't feel like he had a 'bloated' squad to pick from.
Rather than sell Solanke, Palhinha, Richarlison, Romero, I would buy 3/4 quality additions (maybe all HG, because we haven't got a HG core and I think we need one), and cut the squad in January.
Muani, Bissouma, and Davies will leave anyway.
Give the youth players preseason to impress, otherwise loan or sell, or sell with a buy back if we're not sure.

So alot of you want a midfield of Wharton, Gray and Scott. I mean thats good if you want to keep the ball and pass sideways and backwards. They have a combined 7 goals and 16 assists in 202 premier league games. Now thats just what we need, even less creativity from our midfield. I suppose we are just going to rely on Maddison and Xavi to create everything?

Are you sure it's gone that high again? 41 feels massively overstated. Perhaps there's a few Mathew Craig's hanging around the 21's.

I do think people have to remember the squad quota rules though. Just because we're not in a UEFA comp this coming season, doesn't mean we don't need to forward plan for it, especially the club trained category. An example was Bergval who was bought at the age where he could be a long term club trained player. Now fans want to sacrifice him for some fast cash. We must not do that.

We have 19 games this side of Xmas plus the league cup. Then we have another 19 games plus FA Cup and hopefully a few more league cup games. We have to find a way of maintaining the right squad levels. As you say, even if we had maintained UEFA comps we'd still need to downsize.

Even beyond assists, goals is a gap in the team no question

- Kudus and Savino (most realistic rumour right now) are not prolific
- Neither Richi or Solanke are prolific

I'd say that one of the reasons the MGW talk is popping again, we need someone else to add goals
