We don't have a proper DM in the club. We should keep him until we find a better one. No European football, I am not sure the quality of player we can attract with that and even if we did, Palhinha would have been a great bench player. Bissouma should be sold.
De Zerbi plays with a double-pivot, not a DM. Both need to be very capable with the ball and press resistant. Palhinha wouldn't have worked, other than perhaps as a last 10 minute match closer

I will leave it up too De Zerbi to determine whether Paulinha works in his envisaged system; if you don't mind...
Changing goalposts I see.... your argument was that he does not fit into De Zerbi's system... not a personal decision by the player to move back home with his family....Is De Zerbi following him to Sporting Lisbon (where Palhinha is currently signing a contract) then?

Your definition of obvious is not the same as the rest of the world. We've obviously made an active decision to not take-up the option we had on him, before he's been allowed to look around and find another club. His age is probably one factor, but his unsuitedness to the system De Zerbi wants to play must surely be another.

If we wanted to take up the option but the player did not, then it’s not going to happen. Or it would be really unwise if we tried to force an unhappy player into employment.
Far more likely that we’d have been very eager for him to stay but he expressed his desire to return to Portugal at which point all parties agree to end things there with gratitude
Two thirds seems on the high side. You think he'd willingly choose to cut his salary by say 2/3rds, compare to signing a 1 or 2 year deal to stay with us (in the city he has already lived in for the last 4 years)?

By way of very slight personal insight, after becoming a dad, I dropped my working hours so I have a day off each week to look after my daughter. You think he'd willingly choose to cut his salary by say 2/3rds, compare to signing a 1 or 2 year deal to stay with us (in the city he has already lived in for the last 4 years)?
He was the main player who looked like he belonged in a De Zerbi system since he came in.We've obviously made an active decision to not take-up the option we had on him, before he's been allowed to look around and find another club.
