Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I'd genuinely love to see it.

But I've been following scientific articles long enough to know when "nearly there" is more hope than it is reality.

Is this a reply to me?

The levelised cost in high-irradiance regions is already sub $50 for solar + battery. That's cheaper than anything else. Solar has been the cheapest form of power production for some time, but now solar + battery is now king in sunny regions - Australia, California, and China have crossed that price point. That's why they have giant grid-scale batteries everywhere already. They predict a 30-50% further drop in battery prices in the next few years and every one of those predictions has been wrong for years and things have come in cheaper.

Sounds a bit like you did ;)

It clearly wasn't austerity, it was taxing and spending more than any government in peacetime history.

No. You presented it as a counter to the idea of austerity. There was austerity. There is now. The reason they spent record amounts was Covid and aging population.

Most of the tax goes.on the NHS.

No it does not. It goes on Welfare and most of that is pensions.

Braverman has said on day one they want to get rid off the Equality Act 2010,and Matt Goodwin has openly talked about taxing childless women, and Danny Kruger wants to end no-fault divorces.

In top of all of that, Farage has historically said "maternity pay of lunacy" and that women with kids are worth less than men.

They don't think much more of children either

One of the crazy thing is that people see left wingers like me as pro mass immigration. No.

We are pro Migrant and refugee rights once they are here. It's being humane for me. Knowing there's plenty of space and resource in this country if the wealth is used properly. If empty homes aren't kept empty. If we don't waste money on silly things like war and Brexit and the monarchy.

We are pro equity and social justice.

We want affordable housing

Better Healthcare and education to lead to a stronger and more skilled society which can then work and pay for the aging population we have.

For our pensions not to be invested in companies that facilitate war crimes. Be it Russia or Israel or Saudia Arabia or the UAE.

The misunderstanding of what left wing is by so many is crazy.

Starmers speech looks like the final nail, what a cluster
I didn't think it was a particularly bad speech in and of itself to be honest, but his delivery just makes everything sound flat.
He couldnt have announced any new policies (which I have seen mentioned that he should have) with just the weekend to work on it and without cabinet input, and he was right to highlight the things they have achieved. Also right to highlight the need to work more closely with Europe although I suspect that is the thing that a lot of right-leaning media will pick up on and misrepresent.
But end of day, it wasn't a speech for us, it was for his cabinet, MPs and party members/activists. I am not sure enough of them will have been sufficiently convinced for him to continue.

It’s perturbing that even as a supporter of absolutely everything he said, I couldn’t bear watching for more than a few seconds.
