Arsenal have done well to stick by Arteta. Plenty of opportunities to think of twisting (and many clubs would have).

And I'm 100% sure the tactics and methods Arteta employs now were ever in his wheelhouse and 5 years ago he himself never imagined they'd ever be.
It's a needs must exercise as all his favourite methods were trumped by City, Liverpool etc.

Plus his team in the last couple of seasons is a team born from 4 seasons previous progress......so comparing a teams style/performance/refined personnel against a manager (any manager) that is 30-40 games in, is a bit nonsensical.

Arsenal football club has been great for Arteta. I don't think he's great though, he's not in the excellent/elite manager category imo.

I think Arteta ultimately is their Poch (*ducking* already), in hindsight good, but short of what could/should have been.

If you had asked the Arsenal board if it was ok for them to bet 7+ years & 1.2B+ to be almost there? obviously this year could change that but Emry with that money and time would have delivered something by now.

Yeah it’s like…is Arteta actually really good, or is he a product of the way the game has gone, and so his goodness is wrapped up very specifically in crafting a system that exploits the dynamics of the game today.

I also think no other big club outside of Arsenal would have players that respect him as much. He’s just too weird. But the fact that he’s had the full reign at Arsenal to get everything his way, it works. And Arsenal to their credit backed him and allowed him to see it through after 2 average seasons to start.

Emery is a manager for the top tier not elite level. Whenever hes been in that situation hes fallen just short. I don't think Emery at Arsenal would have won either of the bigger competitions so going with Arteta has proven to be the better decision.

I think Arsenal would already have a couple of recent PL trophies and other silverware IF they had kept Emery or hired a different world-class manager and given him Arteta’s budget.

He is the weakest link in their squad IMO and the football he has them playing is dire and taking the game backwards 30+years. So strange when you consider the type of player he was and then coached under Pep.

Not with Emery imo he's fail at the finals stage ala Poch sadly. Although Poch more than hit his ceiling, the lack of squad reinforcement is what stopped him imo.

Saying that Emery would have probably been the perfect followup to Poch if the stars had aligned differently.
