Luka Vuskovic

Especially if a hot headed Argentine decides to leave... We would probably get some 60-70M to invest on a proper deep playmaker and have a ready made replacement free of charge. Vuskovic's stats are mind boggling... even at this stage, I would say he is in no way a downgrade from Romero...

I guess you never know until they set foot in the PL. It's a different beast.

I think you're right though.

All the Bundesliga journos laughed at us for paying £30M for van de Ven.

Yeah, wish we had more people laughing at our signings. Based on your comment, that would be a good sign.

I bet those Bundesliga journo's are a right laugh to have a beer with

"A different beast" is exactly what Vuskovic is!

In previous seasons, I'd have said that it's one thing being a defender putting up great stats for a team that's on the back foot all the time, as opposed to playing for one that's bossing possession. However, we're clearly no longer the bosses of anything (except the Champions' League) so perhaps Vuskovic is exactly what we need. He's working on his speed, and of course positional experience is exactly what he's getting by playing every match.

If a 3-man defence sticks (and it's not exactly been all that successful in the modern Prem), there'll certainly be room for him alongside Romero, VdV and Danso.

I’m really hoping he’s one of our starting CB’s next season. Ideally in the Premier league.

(In truth, I don’t see him being here if we’re relegated).

This idea we would be forced to sell a player that’s got 4 years left on his contract and will be on £10k per week is mad.

It probably wouldn't be a contractual based decision. It would be a financial one. I could easily argue that we'd get that wrong and sell a player whose stock is high as a short term decision rather than leverage him to get us back into the riches of the PL. That is the sort of thing Spurs do.

Best we can hope is a dry loan to somewhere like Bayern, then hope he'll come back if we get promoted in 2028

Selling Romero or VdV would get more money and be a better option for us football wise too.

Exactly this, and on the other side of some comments it isn’t always about us just having a player under contract - if he starts getting offers from bigger teams who are above championship level then the pressure from his agent etc ramps up. Sure, you can just tell him he’s under contract, equally the club may see it as a chance to cash in and build the squad. Saying he might not be here is simply following the sort of logic the club shows in the way it’s run. Especially if it’s constant stories about wanting out.

I just think saying he will definitely be here (in the championship) because of his contract is too simplistic. I’d absolutely love him to be here and hope he is.

It's not following the logic in the way the club is run. When have we let a player go that we didn't want to that wasn't in the last couple of years of his contract?

Whilst this is true, when was the last time we were in the Championship with a player capable of playing in a higher league?

This is my worry with Vusko, he doesnt need to be at that level. Look don’t get me wrong, I want him to be here next season, starting games and being one of the first names on the team sheet as one of the central players of the club. I’m just not convinced that “he has a contract” is enough if we get relegated. I’ll happily see us hold him to it, I just question if that works given player power in today’s game.

Best idea is to stay in the league!

Unless the player downs tools completely then he doesn't have much power when there's a long contract. He's still only 18, and seems level headed. I doubt very much that he would down tools and not use his time to develop. Even if he does down tools it's not like it's an Harry Kane that is trying to force his way out. Throw him in with the kids for a few weeks until the transfer window is over and he'd soon get over it.
Either way it won't happen, he'll play whether we go down or not.

Well I certainly hope so as I’d love to see him, Gray and Bergvall as the core of the middle of our team in the future.
