At the end of the day if solar really was the cheapest energy source in this country. All the largest companies would be installing solar and cutting themselves from the grid. Or even supplying the grid.

Good for housing though, my old man has slashed his costs by having it installed paid for itself and then some, I know you are talking on an industrial level but on some levels its a game changer
Grid Solar is the cheapest energy in the UK, though the intermittency is the issue, needless to say. Solar plus storage is hitting parity in some markets because batteries have become so cheap. I read about improvements in this area almost every week. The grid mix in the UK will lean into offshore and onshore wind more than solar though.

I know.UK energy prices are some of the highest in the world.
I know.
This is largely to do with the way energy markets use marginal pricing. Eventually renewables will push the most expensive generators out of the market, which are gas peaker plants now (I think). At what point do these investments in renewables, that have been funded by the taxpayer, turn in to cheap energy for the people?

Panels all warranted for 25+ here.I live in a desert. 350+ days of sunshine a year. Have 8 solar panels on my current home the builder added for tax purposes. They cut my bill by about 30% and I could maybe get another 4 on my roof.
I then have a rental I have owned for 10 years with 20 panels. The electricity costs were offset so they paid for themselves an I could charge a higher rent with no utility costs. But after 8 years, even though I’ve kept up with the maintenance they stopped working as well and 2 years later basically need replacing. I paid of the loan of them early but absolutely no chance they were worth the investment in the end. I was told they would last 25 years.
Yep used in other markets too - steel, grain etc. There are benefits to it but eventually the increased renewable share of the mix will prompt some market reform. This will need to be done at a Europe-wide level.Marginal pricing is used in pretty much every developed country.

I'm not in the UK, so gas sets the marginal price here.HInkley point c will be the highest cost. Think the contract is for 20 years.
So you'll be lucky to see cheaper bills in your life time.
I'm not sure how it will work for the UK to be honest. Why? We are not a part of the eu. Yes we have interconnections but could only pay the price they charge when we use it. What is the point of privatisation if there is no competition? Apart from making shareholders money.
