Cristian Romero

So he’s criticizing the board for not doing what, exactly? Sign more or better players? So he’s basically saying some of his team mates aren’t good enough? Or what is he saying?

that's why he should have said nothing because us fans will make up all sorts of brick to suit our own narrative. i have all sorts of weird theories going around in my head none are true. DL is the muppet master its all his doing

At least five players seem to have liked his post, some commented on it too - Porro and Richarlison among them.

The entire squad seems sick to the back gills of...someone upstairs. Can't be Frank, he's the one fronting up after all these losses and trying to sow a reasonable-quality purse out of a pig's ear. Given what Romero said about coming out and telling a few nice lies when the going is good but hiding now, seems like it's Venkatesham, Lange, Paratici or ENIC, none of whom have said a word as form has steadily dipped over the past few months.

Ultimately, nothing Romero's saying is new - Conte said it in 2023, only we all got outraged at what he was saying instead of listening to his message. '20 years there is the owner and they win nothing' or something along those lines. Clearly, Romero listened - this isn't the first time he's made this allusion, and I doubt it will be the last.
It is almost like the new old owners who have been running the club for 25 years have not changed.

Good to see the players react to something though, it certainly wasnt to any of the 3 goals last night!

If I were to be cynical I'd say he's trying to take the dairy off himself and the players - he's made these sorts of comments before but since then it's been all change at the top so who's he calling out now?

Otherwise the fans have been on the clubs back for some time now so you'd think at other clubs this could have a galvanising effect between team & fans but I think we all know the reverse is going to happen - more toxicity coming our way

He says 'its been going on for several years now'. This pre dates the likes of Lange - It's the owners he's having a pop at surely, and with no Levy to take the flak anymore there really is no hiding place for them....

Said it all along that Conte did the right thing, too many people got upset about hearing the home truths though.

There was no need for Conte to have a pop though, it was an act of of self preservation / defense - he couldn't hack the job at hand so rather than knuckle down and actually do his job and manage the team out of the situation he threw his toys out the pram because it was a tougher gig than he anticipated

Not saying anything different to Conte three years or so ago. Or Poch before that. And yet plenty who aren’t working at the club day in and day out will criticise him, dismiss his views, tell him to “do one”, and will continue to defend a board which has turned us into a huge business, but which has taken us full circle on the field - to a point at which we have a squad which resembles in quality one from the 1990s when they first took us over.

We are, once again, a complete mess.

He was doing the job at hand, part of that was defending the club, even against itself. If you want higher standards there's nothing wrong with calling anyone out.

We have a good player, buy his back up, back up becomes the starter, then buy another back up, rinse and repeat. That's an act of intentionally weakening your own product.

I always feel quite happy for Levy at the minute, took so much abuse. What's changed now he's gone?

Yeah don't get me wrong I'm not saying what he was saying wasn't accurate (to some degree) but the intention of his words were to garner a swift exit - he dropped a bomb, scurried off to Italy and then (in his own words) made the decision to leave

What Romero has said there is, ordinarily, completely unacceptable and unprofessional. However, it's clearly the result of years of frustration and clearly he's speaking for lots of other players. On balance, I've no issue with it. Too many people have said the same thing for there not to be a lot of merit in it. The club also needs to be careful about punishing him for it - it could spark revolt given the support he has.

I've never seen it this bad - fans fighting players fighting the club hierarchy.

Thank GHod we have 27 points already because it's from foundations like this that "too big to go down" becomes Saudi Sportswashing Machine circa 2010, Villa circa 2015 or West Ham circa 2003.

He spoke the truth - publicly. But he showed no stomach for sticking around and forcing things to change. It seems his head wasn’t in a great place at the time, but it was typical of him based on previous form.

Might be mate. But as @demotw says, might be ENIC too - he did say they've been lying for years, and Lange has really only been here for two.

Romero's been here since summer 2021 - in that time he's seen the team around him devolve in quality, losing Kane, Son et al, and going from a world class manager (Conte) to an inspirational, if flawed one (Ange), to finally what seems like a decent chap but a bit of a wet blanket in Frank.

We all assumed that him signing that new deal meant he'd been given promises about the team being strengthened, but a week's already gone in January and there's no sign of that. That isn't really Lange's call to make, or the manager's - more the board who decide how to approach a window like this one.

Thing is ENIC don't say anything, so it points to a figure???

Some of us didn't get outraged at what Conte said.... Some of us said that he is telling us exactly like it is and, considering he has won trophies at just about every other club he has managed, should be listened to.

Said for years, so that rules out Vinai and Frank. Must be Enic aka Lewis’s.

Didn’t he sign a new contract recently as well?? Wonder if he was given insurances regarding investment or something
If I was a first team player at Spurs and I'd seen us sell a first team squad player, who typically gets on the pitch every game, and was one of our top scorers last season, on day 1 of the window with no-one lined up to replace him, while in a heavy period of games with injuries, suspensions and clear player fatigue, I would have serious misgivings about the priorities of the football club, though I don't think you need to be a first team player to have those same misgivings.

I hope the players realise that we are in a relegation battle as the decision makers at the club do not seem to.

Only reason I wanted conte was because I thought he would tell it as it was, not just about the club but the players.
Didn't go far enough imho.

Conte said it for selfish reasons. He wanted the bullet and made his position untenable. I generally remember Conte’s reign favourably, based on results, and think we missed an opportunity there but his rant was 100% self serving IMO.

I don’t get the same feeling from Romero. He’s committed to the club from what I can see and is just fed up him and the players always taking the flak for years of mismanagement.

I was furious at the cowardly way he did it. I equally believe that the loss of Ventrone and another close friend (was it Vialli that year?) really threw him. He was always tightly wound; I think we just popped his cogs. Unfortunate.
