What would YOUR priority signing be in the Jan transfer window?

I think people are vastly underrating Bergvalls quality on the ball personally but I don't fancy a back and forth on that all night.

My counter to some of this would be that Bergvall would then need to be moved on because De Cat isn't good enough as a DM so would take his role as the number 2 CM next to a more defensive midfielder.

Thats cool if we are hugely rating this guys ability as a CM prospect over Bergvall, for me its a role where we have players with ability to fill. The DM role is one where we now seem to be low although I still rate Pali if he plays with someone other than Bentancur.

For me the immediate issue is still LW and now LB back up, by far and away
Bergvall has great quality on the ball, no doubt. But he's also still a bit inconsistent on the ball and quite frequently high risk on the ball (I think that's why Frank hasn't used him deeper at all essentially). Passing isn't his biggest strength though on the ball.

I think the balance in (deep) midfield remains off, as it has for years. Gray and Bergvall could be the solution to that, but realistically that will probably take some time to materialise. Gray and Bergvall aren't the issue. The lack of press resistance and ball progression from Palhinha, Bentancur and Sarr is a big issue though.

Cheeky bid for this young Morgan Rodgers fella at Villa? Sonny would’ve been proud of his brace against ManUre!

Great player. Probably would be an upgrade on Simons short term at the very least. Has the individual quality to solve some important issues for us. But mostly plays as a #10, some way off our biggest priority imo. And would probably cost a fortune if we could sign him.

Weren’t we strongly linked with him over the summer, much like with Semenyo? And yet we signed neither and here we are.

Rogers could cover for Solanke’s absence too, which we didn’t know in the summer would become a priority.

“With how football is changing, I appreciate a lot the players being versatile, playing different positions, understanding everything tactically. One of them in our squad is clearly Morgan Rogers, and John McGinn as well. This versatility and performing like we are always needing is really very important. Sometimes I’m pushing other players to be versatile or to adapt. Being versatile in case we will need it.

“Not every player is ready to do it, but Morgan Rogers is always positive and his versatility is very important for us. In the last match, we played in different positions with Morgan. He played striker, number ten, right side, left side, and he’s always performing very well because he’s a player who understands tactically everything we are planning and he has the qualities to do it.”

Yeah we were supposed to be considering an £80m bid for Rogers back when Villa were struggling with PSR and after failing to sign Gibbs-White or Eze… hopefully Tel and Simons reach this level in the next few seasons…

A manager that can adapt to what we have, not one that needs his system and his players.
I want a manager who can get the best out of what we have, one that can develop a system around what we have, not the other way around.

Most managers seem to have preferences and styles of play they're more comfortable implemting and working with or towards. To me it seems that the majority of successful managers have pretty clear styles they prefer.

The key is hiring a manager whose preferred way of working fits with where we are (the existing squad) and where we want to go (longer term strategy).

100%
It’s what’s hurt us the most
Flip flopping every time
But to do that the club needs a view on what we are too and that’s rarely been clear

United a are slowly but surely actually starting to use their financial muscle and prestige to buy good quality players again. Last summer was bad enough with them getting Mbuemo and Cunha to a lesser extent, now Gomes a player we should definitely be interested in.
