Full fight on youtube for my white collar debut - A massive thanks again to those who donated, helping raise over 400 quid for Cancer research.

I'm not all too happy with how I boxed, shot selection wasn't great and I should have dealt with him charging in better but a win is a win!
Well done fella. Was it just a one off thing you always wanted to try or are you already thinking about doing it again?

I'd signed up just before COVID and it all got cancelled. It'd be a lie to say I don't want to do it again, there's no doubt it's one of the best things I've done. However, my mate has signed up for the next show in April and I want to help with his preparation. As there's the pressure to sell a minimum of 10 tickets, the main ballache was essentially cajoling people into coming. People say "Oh yeah that sounds cool I'll come", but then they find out it's 25/30 quid for the ticket, it's on a Sunday and then you've got to wear a suit / evening dress. Suddenly you're getting left on read because folks don't usually want to say "Upon reflection, I don't actually fancy that but thanks for the invite", it seems politer to just swerve communication altogether, Jim Morrison was right when he observed that people are strange.

The day itself was wild, after doing the medicals and chat with the ref, we found out we were 27th out of 30 fights, so it was a game of conserving energy and taking it all in, whilst being around mates drinking all day. One didn't even last until the fight as he overdid it lol The upside was that by the time we fought, it was dark out and people were pretty tinkled so the atmosphere had ramped up..

For the fight itself, I'd say at times I was a little flustered but not tested if that makes sense? I didn't feel any punches where I was "Oh brick", respectfully the guy was just throwing arm punches so it was more about what I had in the tank. Whereas the guy afterwards had a black eye, bruised nose. The day after I wouldn't have known I'd had a fight. So I want to go again against someone who really knows how to box. It was just 3 rounds of 2 minutes, quite how pro boxers go at it for 10 rounds is beyond me. Obviously everyone knows it's draining, and at the risk of sounding a bit pretentious, but until you experience it, you can't know exactly how tiring it is.

Also, without going full on Tyson Fury, I have felt pretty flat since the fight - You go from having this date in mind and building towards it to suddenly just heading to work, then home, then work etc plus the diets gone to brick ha I made it down to supermiddle weight at 76kg, which isn't easy for a 6.6 bloke - I'll never be big as the weight only goes to my stomach so it was fun getting lean AF. I just wish I had trained harder properly emptying the tank regularly so I had enough for a stoppage..

Apologies for the essay! In summary, yes ha

Well done!
Are you Matthew The Lemon Curd?

Cheers, no I'm the other fella. My opponent actually worked at the venue we were fighting at so it felt a bit like an away game of sorts...

One thing I didn't mention in my ramble above was a complete lack of nerves, which I was surprised about. 5 years ago, I would not have been able to sleep the night before the fight because my brain wouldn't have been able to stop playing out situations, effectively self sabotaging myself for the fight because I'd be a bit faded for the day. Maybe it's just getting older and having a job with 6 am starts but it's definitely easier to get some kip now, however I like to think it's a sign of progress on the mental health front.

It's kind of funny, I'm the kind of person that will notice someone observing me and suddenly lose focus, like if I'm tying my shoelace and someone is watching me I'll it off putting. Or if I'm about to do a hill start and someone's right behind me, it'll affect my ability. But when it came to the fight it was just getting on with it, like I was kind of there and not there at the same time. It's pretty cool doing brick in real life, I'm glad I'm still around to experience things! Warming up on the pads backstage whilst hearing the crowd roaring on the last few fights before mine, honestly such a fudging cool experience that I'll stop banging on about eventually.

Crawford has retired, got to go down as one of the greatest of all time when you look at his record. Nice to see someone go out at the top. Wouldn't be surprised if he fights Jake Paul or something for big money in the future.

I worry for Paul

I don't, its clearly set up

Ultimately this is like me deciding in my 20s that I wanted to fight a 36 year old Mike Tyson and training with no previous boxing skills for it. It a nonsense of the modern PR world and stupidity where people are now brainwashed on this sort of stuff. Its utterly ridiculous

To be fair Eddie Hearn said Paul was deluded to take the fight and insisted he would realise it's a mistake when he steps in the ring with him but he wanted the money. I'm not sure what Hearn would stand to gain from saying that if it was scripted and they then drag out the fight, he made it clear Joshua would be going for it rather than suggesting it might be closer than people think etc.

If it ends up being a long and close fight then of course it's been setup....

Then he will be out of there within half a round, if he is I will be convinced that its legit

Some have been fooled into convincing themselves that because its happening that Paul should be ok in the ring, we are talking a seriously dangerous man as a boxed in AJ, its just utterly ridiculous

Agree, Eddie was implying similar to be honest. Not invested in this at all, can't believe anyone is interested in this but sadly this is the modern era....

I am intrigued by the outcome to know exactly what this is.

I don't begrudge AJ taking it for the money, I do however if he is going to hold him up for 3 rounds
Yeah can't blame him - it's easy money. I guess that can be pretty much the only reason people will watch, the intrigue of such a mismatch. Well that or just wanting to see Paul get battered :D....
