***Official Match Thread Tottenham Hotspur v Saudi Sportswashing Machine 8:15pm Tuesday 2nd Dec. ***

Difficult to see a good performance or result coming right now. Several signs of some real negative spirals.

Things have been difficult before and turned around though. We know there's both quality and effort in this team. Hope this is a game we can turn it around in.

Away to Saudi Sportswashing Machine is not a game to turn your season around, its a tough place to go when you're in great form.
We will most likely lose, and it will most likely be ugly, so let's not build ourselves up with a load of 'we can win this' or this game defines our season nonsense. Perhaps we can avoid a post match meltdown, and microscopic dissection of one players' mistake, as if that's the reason we lost, rather than we're a work in progress. It's a marathon not a sprint.

Think I will be watching tonight's game with an eagle eye on body language. It's a compelling scenario for anyone deeply invested in this club. How is the coach gonna talk in the pre match interview. Will Porro and Vic start. How deep will we sit. Will Romeros return change things. How will our players react to the weekend. How will the away fans react.

Stressful and intriguing.

But it is though, even in defeat if the players are really up for it and give it a proper go it can be telling. As it also can if we go two down in the first few minutes and everything unravels. If there really is cracks in the foundation between the manager and players this is the sort of game that can galvanize it, or make everything come crumbeling down.

The team played well there in the cup and imo we were unlucky. That was a changed team but one that looked like it knew the job it was being asked to do, like the team did mid week too
That’s what we need to see

Agreed that we will most likely lose. We can definitely play rather well and lose there. But will we look clueless in the process or look like a competent footballing team.

Not wanting to build it up, but we can also win. Maybe we even can play better than we have in some of our recent games.

I think it's right not to expect a result there, anything more is a bonus. What we can expect is effort, focus, and to play some form of football.

They aren't that good that expecting these things are too much to ask. You can often tell a lot in the face of adversity - maybe things won't go the way we want, but if the team are trying and playing for each other and the manager that can be telling.

Sometimes it can just take one game, or one moment to turn a season around and can happen in the unlikeliest of places.

We can at least hope, if we don't have that we have fudge all :)....

Yes, but sadly, as they say, its the hope that kills you....

We have been fairly inconsistent since the early part of 2019 if I remember correctly.... That is apart from being consistently poor.

We have had the odd glorious moment of course, but these last 6 years have left me devoid of any confidence that we will actually win a game.....

Is it the manager? Is it the players ? Is it down to the owners? A mixture of all three where the finger of blame at any one given point can be pointed in a different direction...

Credit must be given to the couple of thousand Spurs fans going up there tonight but all I can see is another poor performance and a disappointing defeat...

Regardless,
COYS.

In this sense the pressure is off somewhat. We all just want an affirming performance - that we can compete and show some effective shape, composure and promise. Which bar two goals conceded I saw some potential against fullham. At least the Spurs players will get a more positive reception up there 😂

This is just the kind of game where we do the unexpected and win.

I remember us going away to Blackburn back in the 90's (who were first) as complete and utter brick placed 14th or something - we then pulled off a whopping 3-0, Nicola Berti, Chris Armstrong and Ruel Fox. I still remember every goal. Fox cutting inside and smashing it in the corner for the last. I ran around in the snow outside celebrating as if we had won a trophy. Youtube delivers:
