Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Gray is the one that baffles me. He was very close to signing for Frank at Brentford last summer. He did well against Burnley in the first match of the season and barely been seen since (understand he's been injured lately.) Would love to see him with Palhinha for a bit. Like a midfield version of Naybet and King (to borrow a @Gutter Boy-ism)

Yeah, what the hell is up with that!? He keeps persisting with pedestrian Bentancur, yet Gray has played well the very few times he has been given a chance this season. I just don't understand this blind faith in Bentancur. He's had a couple of decent games, but apart from those he's been a complete liability this season. It's very frustrating.

Joe Hart mentioned it on MotD, wish that Vicario had been as vociferous about that as he’s been with Bergvall this season as might’ve helped halt their momentum a smidgen if we’d avoided conceding that 2nd goal just before half time.

Tottenham had more reason to feel aggrieved in their 4-1 loss at Arsenal on Sunday.
When Eberechi Eze scored the Gunners' second goal, Bukayo Saka, Martin Zubimendi and Leandro Trossard were all in an offside position in front of the Spurs goalkeeper, but the goal stood.
"I think this is preventing an opponent from being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the line of vision," Joe Hart said on Match of the Day. "As it leaves his foot, Trossard is in [Guglielmo] Vicario's line of vision. Offside in my opinion."

Look at the non foul in centre of the park with I think Palhinha and Merino, wasn't a foul, ref doesn't see it or give it, arsenal badger the and suddenly it's a foul.
Even though he clearly does not see it the ref overturned the decision purely on them appealing.
We accept way too much, Romero, our captain who is allowed to speak to the ref, got booked for complaining that Merino had dived three times, why do we never complain.

Maybe Frank just sees us as a worst team then Brentford. He's playing in a way he hasn't for an age.

Nothing to do with the magnitude of Tottenham, or managing at a higher level, just purely based with working with them everyday.

if that’s the case then he’s doing something pretty drastically wrong, and maybe that would explain a lot.

Yeah, the guy who wanted Brennan Johnson and Gray at Brentford has now decided we have a worse team than Brentford.

Of course that's it, Frank is actually bang on to set us up the way we do - Can't expect to get any semblance of attacking moves going when you have players of Gray/Bergvall/Sarr/Xavi Simons/Kudus/Muani ilk. Punting it forward to a striker who everyone knows can't hold the ball up is definitely the way to go....

Yep
It’s the future
Bang it long to better players and fudge coaching them in any way

Thomas Frank out. I don’t want him at the club any longer. He clearly isn’t the right fit. He talks a good game but then the players play and we look empty of passion, no energy, sitting back and letting ourselves get beat. He’s basically repeated what Nuno did. Occasional wins but not enough. I know this may seem knee jerk but the performance today, and against Chelsea, two of the biggest games of the season, were totally unacceptable.
Good lord mate. I agree the losses were awful. But Thomas Frank out no no no. Things are not that bad yet.

We all agree we need better players to really compete. But one of the apparent attractions on here for Frank was that he improves players. He needs to start doing that and it's not going to happen with this turgid style of football - we don't have the players for it, and it even makes our defenders look worse than they are.

No one is expecting miracles, would just be nice to actually watch us play some football and enjoy watching us again. It's not about yesterday so much, we've seen that story before - most of the season the football has been poor. Come on Frank, time to show why you wanted to make the step up....

I’m not sure he improves playera
I do believe he has adapted to who he has available (in the past)
It’s why I don’t accept our attacking players are crap so he is playing a different way.. we’re literally not passing to them and that’s his set up
It’s new for him too dong forget, Europe too

We are probably getting into larger picture discussions when we talk about 'intent of the club' or 'our way' of playing etc. Which is fair to ask.

But then seeing as it's bigger picture, what is our reference point?
Is it the 4-1 defeat we had vs Chelsea when we had two men sent off and eventually succumbed in the last few mins vs a mediocre Chelsea side and Nic Jackson?
Was it the Europa league final win when we basically parked the bus like any Pulis side after taking the lead?
Was it the home defeat to Liverpool last season when we had a lot of defensive injuries but scored 3 goals letting in 6 and nearly 10 if Liverpool were even more ruthless?
What about the first half vs Wolves this season when we could/should have been 2 or 3 goals up before they changed tactics and nullified us in the second half?

When we talk about intent, are we talking about the way we start matches? Changes made during matches? Keep things as we started regardless of how a match is going? Or only looking at the end result?

In light of the above, what starting line-up and formation would YOU have gone with yesterday?

If you don't want to see my point, all good.

Line-up yesterday? Probably 4-2-3-1

Vic
Porro
Romero
VdV
Udogie

Palhinha
Bergvall

Kudus
Xavi
Tel

Muani

Or a 4-3-3 with midfield of Palhinha, Bergvall and Xavi, and Kudus/Muani/Tel

I'd have looked for a carrier - which we have a couple of - to progress the ball off the CBs, for our FBs to press/pressure high and wide up the pitch, and for quick passing 10-15ft higher up the pitch.

I reckon that was just an emotional post after losing to that lot. There hasn't really been any Frank out statements here otherwise, and there shouldn't be....

I guess I would have to ask that same question about all of the top clubs in England. Where is the Emirates Marketing Project style that won the league 5-7 years ago? Where is Arteta's stylish football of 3-5 years ago?

I think we might be doubly suffering as Spurs fans because our own philosophy has changed in line with the entire league and we have a manager who is not known for massively entertaining football. It's clearly so over-rotated at this point. Then you have the triple effect of us being in a period where referees just aren't using the laws of the game so managers and players have assimilated to the environment set by the officiating.

There are some real RIP Football moments going on in this current period. The most entertaining match I've watched recently was Eng vs Kiwis at Twickers last weekend. Way more entertaining than any football match I've watched in a fair while.

I agree, football in general is in some sort of 'stodge' with regards to style. And I think we need to remember who we are as a club philosophically. Maybe the issue is fans like me. Maybe we are not who I believe we are philosophically as a club. If that is the case, don't tell me please, and let me continue believing we will once again find our true selves again as opposed to that pathetic effort yesterday and against Chelsea plus Bournemouth plus Wolves.

Its not stuck anywhere, I just don't believe a stupid rhetoric that we have only scored goals by "luck"

I am also not stuck in the sand knowing this clubs recent history of hire and fire and being stuck in a circle for nearly 30 years.

So yeah, as I say, lets sack the manager to please peoples itch in November, but I am saying this now, WHOEVER comes in needs fcuking time to turn this club anywhere near to the level that everyone seems to be comparing us to.

If you think we get to Arsenal levels or Liverpool of the past 8 years hiring and firing our way there, then its not me with their head in the sand hombre

This is unlike you mate. Obviously I know you don't want to sack him, I'm talking about the exasperation around the conversation. I'd be more inclined to agree if these awful displays were a one or even two-off. But this is a pattern. I think the critical conversation is valid.

I think you are right, I don't think Frank is infallible to those criticisms, but we are also missing 2/3rds of any quality that we have as a squad/team and its showing also.

And I would be saying that for any manager here managing under those constraints

We are only missing it if he knows what to do with it. I would like more consistent proof of that personally with the players he has available.
