Lucas Bergvall

You're not allowed to leave the field of play to gain an advantage or some such rule iirc. Accidentally doing so, falling over after a duel etc is allowed.

Think those rules have been there for a long time. Quick thinking from Bergvall, but unfortunately not allowed.
I'm sure I've seen players step off the pitch / in the goal, to avoid being offside?

I wonder if today's VAR would have chalked off this classic Bale goal?

That would still be okay according to IFAB...

Players are allowed to leave the field of play when it is a natural part of the game, for example:

➡ to take a restart (a throw-in, goal kick, corner kick)
to go round around/past an opponent
when their momentum takes them off the field (chasing the ball to the goal line, making a save or slide tackle)
➡ if they are injured/feel unwell
➡ to avoid being involved in active play (offside)

In other cases, deliberately leaving the field of play without the referee’s permission:

➡ is a cautionable (yellow card, YC) offence*
➡ may be penalised with an indirect free kick (if the referee stops play for this offence)
➡ has an impact on the offside line (find out more: bit.ly/Post_OffsideLine)

Lucas' first start for Sweden tonight. A big game vs the Swiss who are strong opposition and top the group.

Up against Xhaka (and Akanji).

Isak and Gyokers to feed, up front.

Bergvall had a reasonably good game overall. Huge effort. Mixed results, a perfect assist but Isak hit the post. Then a great run to get the tap in but got stage fright and muffed the simple finish. Charged up and back and up and back, always trying difficult things and doing some good, some rash, some inexperienced stuff.

Edit - he played on the right of a 3 man midfield in a 532 and the right back was notably crap. Bernhardsson. Apparently he is a forward in the German 2nd division?!

As I type he nearly equalises, he's definitely got up there well to be a goal threat, just shanked it, he must be exhausted by now. Now he is subbed off.

Haven't heard muffed for awhile.

Ouch, that's gonna hurt. Lets hope Sweden still win it and he doesn’t end up as a Beckham style spacegoat.
They couldn't win vs a girls under 15 team. They are utter crap! Apart from that horrendous miss from Bergvall, they've hardly created anything that looked like a goalscoring opportunity in 3 games!
Their coach, John Dahl Thomassen, is the Danish version of Amorim.
And as a Norwegian, I absolutely love it! 😂

Didn't watch either game, but some Swedish friends of mine are absolutely furious with the "Danish bastard" (danskjävel). :tearsofjoy:

Bergvall got subbed at half time when Sweden lost to Kosovo 0-1, but still got man of the match voted by the crowd.

I attended the match and he was ok, but the formation of the team was brick and he suffered from it.
That's interesting -- how does crowd MotM work? Some sort of localised phone vote? Sweden is the home of Bluetooth after all!
