Transfer thread

Eze you mean? He's a year younger. But it's getting really tough to pay fees for a player who has 2/3 seasons left in them, even rather than 3/4. PSR means you are pretty much just setting fire to that cash.

A year is nothing. We wanna be better, we wanna be supplementing our squad with proper quality. I will let others do the sums, but he would be my choice, way above shelling out for another 20/22 year old prospect

The difference is Eze was capable of lifting Palace. Paqueta not only is 28 and would take a huge fee. I'm not sure he's that good.
He's not. He's a highlights player. Most assists he's got in the league is 6, and goals less so. He does a couple of fancy flicks, and loses the ball and falls over a lot. Perfect example is the Chelsea game, scored a great goal to be fair to him and then minutes later loses the ball just outside the box for Chelsea to score. He isn't going to change at 28....

Still have at least £130m to spend so they need to get their finger out.

Eze we agreed £60m for so we clearly have that sort of money.

Savinho we are offering £60m at the same time and are apparently willing to go to £70m so no excuses for not splashing the cash.

The players we go for have to be good enough to warrant that price tag though (no more N’dombele’s!) and they have to want to join us…

Assuming the rumours are true and we wanted to sign both and could afford it.

It may also be that we could spend 130m, but that doing so would depend on fairly favourable payment structures etc. So difficult to know for sure.

But yeah, disappointing if we don't see significant movement.

Agreed. No point spending for the sake of spending or going big on someone that's seen (within the club) as a risky signing.

Not signing anyone is way better than signgig another Ndombele for sure. Would rather sign someone young and cheaper who is alright now and could become great for less money than sign a proven player for a lot of money that isn't quite good enough for what we end up paying.

But I also expect us to still have several identified good targets even after (taking reports and speculation as true) failing in attempts to sign MGW, Eze, Paz and Hincapié.

The most we've ever seemingly shown in parallel was £60m for Eze + £50m for Salvinho, or £60m for Salvinho + £50m for Paz. Which is more £110m

So perhaps the more Salvinho goes up, the cheaper the #10 has to be (which probably leads to El Khannouss, which is still a good outcome)

If the various reports are true then we’re at least trying to get someone in. Does worry me that we’ll get strung along with Savinho and City pull the rug at the 11th hour and there’ll be a mad dash just to get anyone in no matter how far down the shortlist they are. If they even appear on the shortlist.

Takes me back to the glorious transfer window when we ended up with Gregor Rasiak on loan

We are in a tricky market position.
Yes, we won a major European trophy and are in the CL.
But we also finished one place above the relegation zone.
The level of player we want will have other options that are less risky.
Luckily there isn't much money around Europe and we're in London.

At least he was on loan. We actually signed Sissoko.

Or it could be Paratici working on all deals in tandem, but only one coming in.

There are some ignominious episodes in our past which I thought i had safely buried...but up from the grave they rise. I suspect that Rasiak was well aware that he was out of his depth playing for the mighty THFC. Its almost unfair on donkeys to say that the guy played like a donkey. Crumbs, he really was terrible, not one of our chairman's better moves..........
