transfermarkt says he's right-footed

He is but apparently has played on left

I guess it also depends on what's happening with Romero and Davies.

Could have Romero, VDV, Dragusin (once fit), Danso +1 more in the squad next season. Send the rest out on loan.

Phillips probably still needs more game time before pushing for a place in the squad, and we could give Vuskovic and this guy a season in England to see how they cope.

Going to have a lot of games next season, especially up to January window

- Don't see Phillips playing a serious part, seems like the new CCV, on loans, will do well, eventually sell?
- Dragusin may not be ready for start of season

To @Bedfordspurs maybe we want to have cover for occasional 3 at back, in which case having Kota & Vuskovich as cover is more realistic than having 6 senior CBs in squad?

Only question I have now is why do we have so many CBs

I guess we play 2 (or 3) centre halves in the team at any one time, and we have Phillips, Dorrington, Vuskovic, Kota on top of the senior 4 or 5.

Is it any different from up front where we seem to be playing the numbers game with Veliz, Scarlett, Lankshear, Melia and Feeney?

If we've spent maybe £10-20m each in these areas I guess we'll get to see who makes it and we win the lottery. Even if they don't, we may minimally break even as they depart again.

If I was picking a team right now in an injury crisis, it would be Phillips and Scarlett that would get the nod. Along with Veliz, probably the 3 biggest favourites to get moved on.

Maybe
I do think 3 suits us more and more
Especially with the lack of a real 6 in the squad
You need a ball player, an aggressor and a leader on that mix of 3
We have those ingredients and it would possibly also make it easier for younger players coming in too
Focussing on them
Vuskos weakness appears to be pace
Philips is possibly ball playing
Dorringtons may be the physical side
Then add in their lack of age related experience
And of course we have Drago who is now 23 (I think) and not overly experienced here at least

The weaknesses all be compensated for effectively in a 3 and may bring out their strengths more
It also suits our right sided full backs well… left side less so ok paper (we need a second one anyway for that side)

From what we have or know today we could line up like…

……………..Vic……………

Danso Romero. VDV (can play left wing back too)

Porro (djed) Bentacur (gray) Destiny

Bergvall (Sarr) Maddison (kulu)

Johnson (tel) solanke (richy)

That kind of mix
And of course subject to who we end up with

I suspect it's back 3 for certain away games and against top teams.

4-2-3-1/4-3-3 for more home games and weaker opponents.

Not sure about VDV as a wing-back. LB perhaps.

I think if we went 3-5-2, you'd see the benefits in the 2 up top. All of Solanke, Richi, sonny, Johnson, Tel and even Kulu could operate in that 2 if the width came from the wing backs.

If it's 3-4-3, then I'm less of a fan.

That’s why it has to be a dynamic change and used in the right way
We need more players
We also need to sell some to make things fit

If playing a back 3 then I think Gray, Danso, VDV would work really well (I'm assuming Romero is getting sold this summer).

Must be a bit tricky for the club to have definitive targets. As Frank can't possibly know his exact team having not tried anything yet. So chances are we are buying for some flexibility - back 3 or 4. This singing certainly supports that.

While fair, Frank will know a lot about our players, and by now would have a download from club with additional perspectives.

Still needs to work with them, but he isn't completely blind/new to this team.

We know we need to add some quality - who doesn't - with CL to play. But we don't have any idea of how things will shake down once the players set foot on the turf. Frank will have ideas on the setup, but there will be some working out of the best side.

IF we keep Romero, the depth looks something like:

1st choices Romero VDV
2nd choices Danso Dragusin*
3rd choices Takai Vuskovic
4th/Loan Phillips Dorrington
5th/Kids Cassanova/Byfield etc

*Sell Davies?

The big problem/asterisk is Dragusin. He's injured. He's a bit unsure on the ball. He can't play left side. So we might keep Davies around for a year to do that job instead of Dragusin and until we know for a fact that Takai and/or Vuskovic can step up.

((I'm assuming if we sell Romero for big money, we buy someone for big money like Guehi or Nathan Collins or whatever))

In reality we need to see rotation around Romero, VDV and Danso. There are 3 combinations there that should allow us to keep them fresh. I'm pretty certain one of Danso and Romero can play left to make them a viable combination. They can definitely play right of VDV.

The other player that did some serious bench sitting for the first team last season was Malachi Hardy. I wonder if he can get into the PL2 / U21 side this season. He's only 17.

Based on really limited information he seems like a great profile. Young, big, strong, but also excellent qualities on the ball.

We need some short term solutions too, but really like that we're seemingly also trying to fix issues in the squad with potential long term solutions with top level quality. And we really need ball players at the back and in midfield.

Don't think this says much of anything about Romero for the next season. But may be difficult both with home grown/club trained regulations and for game time to keep both him and Vuskovic at the club for the upcoming season. Maybe Frank will look at both then make a decision on loans.

Given how well Gray played at CB last season he at the very least gives us another "emergency option". Could also make it a bit easier to give a squad role to Takai or Vuskovic given that if one of them struggles to settle in we do have another option in Gray.

Agreed about the asterisk for Dragusin. Could be one really helped by a change of manager. A more structured, at times somewhat deeper and protected back line should really suit him. If we're also able to attract more first team ready quality passers/ball players around him that could mitigate his issues on the ball. But uncertainties there with the injury and his shortcomings on the ball.
