* Official Pre-Season Games Thread *

From what I saw, Valencia were willing to sacrifice limbs to win this, whilst we looked more like trying not to get injured and not giving it 100%.

Come Saudi Sportswashing Machine we will put more into it, plus the legend of Sandro will rule the earth. We've already won that match as far as I'm concerned. Easy peasy, Portugesey.

Can only hope that Hudd not appearing was because he had some slight injury, illness or a sunburned toe or something. If AVB really put on every outfield sub apart from him and he was fit and ready on the bench while our midfield was getting outplayed like that I will have to go breathe into a bag or something.

Thudd was the only outfield player not to be used? Was there a limit on subs hence he couldn't be brought on? Interested to hear AVBs post match comments.

Anyone else think Bale was a bit mardy when he went off? Didn't go up to AVB who was approaching him to shake his hand, and I'm sure he shook his hand without making eye contact...

PS I may be being paranoid...

I though the second half was a disaster. We all say it, but why the fudge does Levy do this to us? Our start will be fudged up again because of all this and AVB will get crucified, by the press, by the fans, and also the players will start doubting him... And All because Levy takes a fudging age to do anything... We have so many average players. Yet players like Huddlestone doesn't even get a minute on the pitch. It's disgusting. And we have to see that useless **** Jenas over and over again! I also our midfield and strikers are so weak, we need 3 striker, a winger and a midfielder so badly. More is he doesn't like Huddlestone because Jenas and Livemore are not good enough to be back up to whoever replaces Modric... fudge me it's depressing...

The kiss of death right there boys n girls!

Fair enough, sorry, didn't wish to be rude...no, not necessarily a similar style, just a similar opinion to a few...although to be fair, I'd say there are more similar opinions developing by the minute :)...:-(...

The thing that worries me is i used to think "there's no way we'll go the season without that forward we need" and after the Berbatov/Keane/Fraizer Campbell i lost all faith in him, and nothing's changed since-the only reason we got Adebayor was cos City were sick of him and they obviously fancied the corrugated iron and a set of tracksuits we offered for him. Embarrassing.

Good competetive game, Defoe tried manfully but thats not enough, I think this game was a sign of what will be until we bed down under AVB, Walker defensively is awful but AVB is a video man I hope he will sort it out, Gallas still offers us a lot, bring on the new season I cant wait.

...I think we should revisit this thread in September. It will be very interesting to see what's actually happened versus what's projected to happen. The doom here is almost asphyxiating...

I will be interested too.

If AVB doesn't think Hudd is good enough or if Hudd isn't going to be fit for the opening games I'm more worried about our midfield than our strikers right now.

Didn't see the Bale thing but wouldn't be surprised and let's be fair he has been isolated in a number of pre-season games already.

Agree on Levy, some see him as a chairman not to be criticised but I am not convinced there has been any strategy behind these moves. Nor do I believe that he is really willing to spend money on necessary replacements (beyond spending just what comes in from selling players) and cannot believe we have left it a week to deal with vital areas (especially so considering AVB's philosophy). The Modric situation is especially ridiculous, sure we want to get what we can and not be bullied by players or big clubs like Madrid. But equally one has to consider the damage this is causing through uncertainty - no least if AVB can only spend once the Modric money has come into the club (which really is worrying).

It's a bit worrying after watching us pre season. In my opinion if we do slide down the table with no signings I.e striker creative midfielder it will lie at the feet of the chairman and his sacking of redknapp and most of all his transfer dealings .

I recognise vallidy to some saying we shouldn't be overly negative etc etc. I accept than and will always support my team at WHL. But it would be wrong for me to pretend that I would absolutely prefer to have kept Harry in these circumstances. I trust his ability to get the most out of what we have compared to AVB. Perhaps unfair on AVB considering how little time he has had (although perhaps not is based upon his chelsea reign which many opposing fans openly mocked), but I assumed we would be further ahead in bringing players in and would not be playing deadwood in a system which is pretty new and risky a week before the season starts (against a very formidable front line ironically).

Yeah but majority wanted Harry fired.

I wouldnt snap at AVB so quick and I know youre not alluding to it at all - just saying. I guess it would be as you say - Levy.

I have a feeling something will happen. three or four signings

I know why but this has been one of the most uninspiring pre seasons in 20 years that I can remember! Money's on Saudi Sportswashing Machine at this rate.

Mate ok not a great night but fudge me , you've got the rope and can of petrol out already , and how can you say you'd put money on Saudi Sportswashing Machine when you clearly won't . Slag em off fine but saying money on toon etc is a bit tossy

FT - all over at the Mestalla and it's finished Valencia 2-0 Spurs - we played well tonight but undone by two clinical finishes.

Must of been watching a different game to me

My thoughts:

We had some decent moments of possession and played some nice football, but there appeared to be a lack of leadership and urgency after we conceded an outstanding goal.

Bale on the right and Lennon on the left means our two best players become less effective. AVB - don't do this.

Vertonghen looks tidy on the ball, but positionally a bit suspect sometimes. Think he may end up needing a season to adapt to the Premiership.

Sigurdsson struggled to get into the game - this is going to be the case unless we sign a proper centre forward who can hold up the ball, or at least get a deeper lying creative midfielder who can get the ball to him in place. I don't ever want to see Jenas and Livermore paired together again. In fact, I just pray we get rid of Jenas, he's had more than enough chances to impress.

In short - we need a minimum of two new centre-forwards, plus either Modric back or a suitable replacement, and additional cover on the wings.

It's all part of a plan to demonstrate we need a clear out and a direct spend . Hope
