In a way, I think CF was, if not the main problem, then certainly one of them. So many times, England needed a presence in the box, where an actual CF would be playing. However, Kane was about 20 yards further back, playing more as an AM than even a second striker. The thing is, no-one else was providing any link between midfield and attack, and that ain't Kane's fault.

I was screaming for Southgate to replace the invisible Mount for Maddison, thus freeing Kane to go further upfield. I thought Rashford would be shoved up there when he came on, but that didn't happen either.

Anyway, my point is that England played most of the game without a real CF. Blaming Kane for that doesn't exactly show a keen understanding of the game, but I can see why some would.

Actually, I'm perfectly happy with Shearer et al wanting Kane to be dropped, as that'd finally give him some rest.

It’s chicken and egg for Kane with England
Same as with Tottenham
He stays up top and and he never gets the ball. The stats then say he didn’t touch it in the box for example
The cause of it is brick players around him

In reality we need more from the back 5. It is not enough to be a competent defender anymore especially with 3 CBs. At the moment we have cameo attacks from the CBs, when it needs to be more integrated/consistent. With pressing a standard tactic, we have to be able to play the ball from the back much better. This lack of ability on the ball from the back line is the root of some of our issues.

I reckon get Kane and Mount communicating so they stop trying to operate in the same space, get a better option in on the left than Sterling, and it might just click.

Foden has looked poor for England but he has been playing with crap players who can’t pass to him
 
Would Maddison not be the more natural replacement for Mount?

Grealish and Foden seem to get used sparingly and Maddison was a last minute exclusion despite club form, think Southgate doesn't like the three of them as they are all Larrakins in training / reputationally? I think he dropped Dele before he really nosedived for us too.

in which team do you suppose kane will be scoring loads today?

spurs have perisic putting in crosses much more than england, but kane can't reach those. can't see him beating halland and lliverpool have no need for slow lone strikers.

england play balls to quick players who move easily into empty spaces, but kane can't be them either. don't see how he would feature for arsenal or chelsea either who player with quick micropasses and movement.

In the group stages, Kane has been used as the deep-dropping passer to release the speed around him. I think the knock-outs could be different. There again, we have no other player like Kane . He can drop, collect, hold and if he wants, ping a pearler. Or just win a free-kick. In tight games it is a vital thing. Sadly, we need another to step up and do what Kane does to allow Kane further forward. FWIW, when teams don’t sit in two banks of four, it makes the whole system work much better.

Second top scorer in the league with 12 goals in 15 games, yeah, wouldn't score loads in any team...
Why do some of our fans (mostly idiotic ones) go out of their way to put Kane down?
Put him in that City team and he'd be close to if not matching Haalands numbers while also contributing more outside scoring.
