Putin & Russia

The only positive from this mess is the highlighting of Chelsea and evertons links to dirty cash. Abromovich trying to engineer a fire sale of Chelsea fc, and Asminovs extensive sponsorship of everton is now less easy. 3 or 4 sponsorship deals from first dibs on stadium naming right (30m), training ground sponsor etc now canceled.

Should Saudi Sportswashing Machine have more pressure exerted by the media re. the Yemeni war? And City face more scrutiny too? If we are cleaning up, lets keep it consistent!
Unfortunately this will likely benefit Chelsea.

Abramovic needs to sell quick which means selling cheap. Any billionaire getting a bargain will be able to spend more than one buying at full price.

Putin might just be beyond the level of crazy that we're all worried about. Mainly because he cares about being the one with his name in the history books known for rebuilding the USSR.

That's not the case for those who prop him up though. At what point does the risk of going against Putin get outweighed by the cost of sticking with him? For those that want to visit their mistress in London and send their kids to an English school, hopefully quite soon. I suspect that for all of them it falls well short of Russia being involved in a long, damaging war (nuclear or not) that they are quite likely to lose.

well, the answer is in the sanctions.

Let's take a fictional example, let's call him Roman A and he's Russian and lives in London, a billionaire with property, investments and even owns a football club.

The sanctions have impacted Russia greatly and the Rouble. Roman A though, he lives in London. His property and investments are in Pound Sterling. He's literally NOT impacted in any way. If anything, he could now return to Russia and buy everything else he wanted for a snip.

This is the fundamental problem, those around Putin, the billionaires and oligarchs... aren't actually affected as their wealth is tied up outside of Russia.

Most of them have their non-Ruble assets frozen. The ones still in Russia are losing value daily.

Not a regime change, a restriction on ownership of nuclear weapons. You can have a dictatorship or nukes, not both.

There's nothing to say the Russian people won't vote for Putin in a free and fair election. If they did that then there's no regime change.

I was more thinking regime change as I think there is no way Putin agrees to those terms so it would have to be a regime change to make it happen.

I'm sure he won't. But importantly it won't technically be a regime change by us and our allies and therefore (I believe) legal.

I really believe Johnson has links with the Saudis which is why he was so against the European super league which would have made buying Saudi Sportswashing Machine pointless.

She's bang on the money about Russian oil and gas.

Any other country that can produce them should be going full tilt right now and we all need to be pressuring Germany et al to stop buying them from Russia.

The increase in oil and gas prices are matching the devaluation of their currency. So until Germany starts taking this seriously and acting in a responsible manner, the Kremlin won't run out of funds.

Something happened behind the scenes. The takeover was initially rejected wasn’t it? Then everything went very quiet, followed by an extremely swift approval and sale. That is not commonplace. It certainly appears as though money and influence came into play.

The saudis promised to stop pirating premier league football in the middle east (bein owns the rights and the saudis were tinkled with the qataris). The premier league then agreed the sale.

Nothing to do with the government.

Norway has increased the production massively, but it dwarfs in comparison to the Russian export.

Sweden reporting that Russian aircrafts are violating and entering Swedish airspace. Does not say if those aircrafts are commercial or military.

Edit: reported as military aircrafts.

Begs the question why they're still in the air then.

Putin clearly testing our resolve, we're inviting him to march on through Europe by doing nothing.
