Nuno Espírito Santo - Sacked

I disagree completely. There was no unhappiness fo the fans. I think Poch may well have feared the sack from Levy, but that wasn’t due to calls from the fans.

Those on here calling for Potter or Ten Hag have to realise neither are going to happen…. Both knocked us back in the summer. Spurs isn’t the place that a manager on the up is going to risk his reputation at. The high standard you are judged at isn’t commensurate with the wage and transfer budget provided for the first team squad. If we sack Nuno (more wasted money) then we’d have to get incredibly lucky with a reasonably unproven manager or (more likely) end up with another Nuno level manager.

Looking back over the summer it is no wonder so many managers turned us down when the owners of a team finishing 7th in the PL the season before were offering a transfer budget of net £30m, a large cut to the wage budget and demanding European football.

The only way we now attract a worthwhile manager is getting VERY lucky, or by offering a large budget to rebuild…. The only way the latter happens is by the owners loading even more debt on the club (we already have the largest debt in the football World) or by them injecting equity by diluting their holding (and they have shown no willingness to do this previously). I think we are now probably stuck in this cycle for the next 4 or 5 years unfortunately.

I do wonder why they knocked us back, was it because they didn't want to work with Levy and deal with him for a rebuild or was it because the people up top want too much influence over the squad and how its managed?

I wouldn't be surprised if we never spoke with Potter because Levys ego is too big to consider someone who wasn't a name, think he was scared after the backlash of Poch going and Jose replacing him and then found out the job wasn't so attractive after all.

No one on here has any idea who knocked us back and in Potters case there was nothing to suggest we were ever really in for him. There were clearly talks with certain managers, but no one knows what level those talks went to or why they stalled. Everyone just jumped on any loose speculation and wrote their own narrative….

Am I the only one who thinks Potter has been over rated in recent months?

I think he's a very good coach and has done a great job at Brighton. However, hey finished close to the relegation places last year. Now I always bought into the theory that it was a false position and he was let down by poor finishing. I saw them against the top teams last year and they were very good. But in the summer, a lot were saying he wasn't at our level. Suddenly, 10 games later and he seems to be the messiah for a lot more fans.

As I said, I think the guy is a very good coach but I'm not sure he's ready for a club with our profile, our operating model and our board.

I think it’s a combination of people putting 2+2 together and thinking if he can develop our build up play like Brighton’s and we have Kane and Son then maybe it’s a perfect fit.

The other part being that the fan base are so desperate to get behind an actual attacking project.

Yeah and that's fair. I think he'd need time if he came in though. Far more than Nuno got albeit, I'm sure if we could see progress, we'd give him that. With Nuno, there was nothing.

The Club can today announce that Nuno Espírito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.

Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football, said: "I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.

“Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.”

A further coaching update will follow in due course.

Not even disguised as mutual consent, just straight up sacked.

What I never understood was that when he left Wolves it was reported for personal reasons and that he wanted a break from the game and was returning to Portugal. Just on this alone the fact we approached him made no sense.

Farewell Nuno.
Wrong man for the job. Between his style of play and having a load of issues not of his making to deal with., he was on a hiding to nothing.
I wish him well wherever he ends up.
And hope we get our act together and get the right manager in this time round. No room for mistakes this time. Or we'll end up with a managerial turnaround to rival Watford.

Sad. Nuno seemed a good guy but was the wrong choice from the off and it was absolutely obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense and football knowledge. Levy and Paratici should be ashamed of themselves today.

I wish Nuno well and hope he's successful elsewhere. The buck should stop at the top for this.

Yes, I thought Nuno looked tired at the end of his time at Wolves. And still does. Best of luck to him.
