Poch's first big thing was bringing Mason and Bentaleb in for Capoue and Dembele and fixing the speed of our back to front transition

I have to admit there was a time in the summer when talk of Lopetegui coming got me excited when i looked into it more...you do wonder how that would have gone eh...sigh...

We conceded the least goals in the PL in one of Poch's early seasons. Defense was a foundation for him. He was a CB of course. But it was a team effort, defending from the front.

Maybe part of the issue with Poch, was when he tried to evolve from the press. I think he recognised that his sides did lose steam eventually and he needed a more dynamic system than an all-out press.

Yes..i thought that was very much an attacking, "taking it to the man" move myself..as opposed to defensive (though it could be argued that was defensive given that attack can often a be a form of defence..)

I agree with most of your points here (apart from the fact that we were defensively awful in terms of goal conceded in Poch's first season here).

I do feel he was trying to evolve and it will be fascinating to see how this plays out with PSG...

Pochs team didn’t come alive until he fixed the defence
 
I'm well over this useless, boring, slow, pathetic football! fudging Derby are more entertaining!
It's all well trying to shore things up a bit to get a somewhat stable defensive foundation, but even the most defensive minded teams have SOME form of plan in attack!
We have absolutely NOTHING! ZIP, NADA! All we do is stand still, take 7 touches each, and pass it slowly, until we lose the ball and concede. Then rinses and repeat.

Levy has made some awful decisions, but hiring Nuno is one of the worst, and if he stays the entire season, that is even worse!

Tbf, we had those great results in the first season vs Chelski and Arsenal when the defence hadn't been fixed and some other high-scoring wins (plus we came 5th which was actually quite an achievement considering the poor performance of said defence)

We conceded 3 that game vs Chelsea when really we shouldn’t have concede any
But again…. Those performances took time for him to get the team to do
He also had to bin the dross first in that period
Here, right now…. Feels like there is a lot of dross to go (and it will include recent signings)

I agree it took him time... but even by then we'd seen some highs as well as lows.
We certainly saw more incisive attacking play by the time he'd had ten league games (even if we have more points at the same stage)

Hmmm.. we got spanked a lot in that period and not by better teams (West Brom and Saudi Sportswashing Machine beat us don’t forget) but we did score a lot more
I actually think Poch is still too big an issue at the club
I heard way too many fans talking about Nuno keeping the seat warm for Poch

I suspect that's going to look as deluded as the talk of Poch coming back in the summer was talked about as though it was actually a 'thing'...i bet the board love those kind of rumours lol
