Harry Kane MBE

And, to add to the above, I am astounded by how Harry has been vilified on this board in the last few days. I am not saying he has done everything right, but in the long run, since 2014, he has been superb in every aspect of the game. I for one hope he stays.
Regardless of what's true and what's not, this is what disappoints me the most. Too many on here ready to smear the reputation of one of our greatest ever players, someone who has given his all to the club from day one. All this nonsense about 'not turning up' for the big games, as if he chooses when to score, it's laughable.

Some of us are old enough to remember how the likes of Jimmy Greaves and Glen Hoddle were constantly pilloried by the media for their supposed lack of workrate. For heaven's sake!

I think the big game criticism is fair - its 4 games now so getting to the point where questions will be asked

However I do agree that a lot of conclusions are being jumped to and a lot of vilification of Kane. The silence from club and player over the last week are weird enough that it suggests to me that there are some materials developments which aren't known publicly

If what Kane says is true, then the assumption I would make is that spurs are preping fans for the sale.

It's a big if though and not a great way to treat him if that is the case. Nor has it been our behaviour during previous big money transfers.

So Im Inclined to believe that Kane did stay away, maybe he told the club what he was doing. And done so without permission

It’s really quite simple, if Kane was actually so outraged at all these stories that were nonsense he would have spoken about it when it occurred - not started leaking things a good few days later once he had thought about his next move. As for not turning up in finals it’s a valid point, he’s had four major finals and done nothing in any of them. If you want to list other players who are apparently ‘world class’ yet haven’t won anything and not contributed in finals then be my guest. The whole point of being world class is that you’re a difference maker in the big games, not just a flat track bully and it’s a valid thing to throw at someone at his level….

especially a player claiming to be as good as or better than messi and ronaldo.
still can't get over that statement, that set major alarm bells going off in my head. think it sure, but for a 28 year old player to come out and say that, with all that he has "achieved" shows a serious lack of self awareness. i bet it didn't go down to well in the dressing room either, comes across as i'm failing because you lot are holding me back.
lloris world cup winner
son asia cup winner
trippier spanish title
eriksen italian title
walker lots of bought titles
all without harry, must rankle a bit.

I don't think that the vast majority have any intention of smearing Harry and respect what he has done for us. I think their bone of contention is that there is a major dichotomy for a player to complain about lack of trophies when he was involved in a considerable number of finals yet if we are brutally honest he never once produced a storming display that turned the game in our favour. You mention Hoddle - he was individually responsible for our 1982 FA Cup and probably the 1981 as well....

Tbf I thought he was excellent in the first half an hour v Italy, then faded like the rest of the England side. Been anonymous for Spurs in finals though I agree.

Guinevere via Prof on COYS:

Yesterday we received info from Guinevere that matches the above. She didn't say anything about the Emirates Marketing Project situation, or about a new contract. However, she did say that the club arranged the location of his holiday and were 100% aware of the return date. She's been scathing about the way his brother has behaved but on this one she believes Harry hasn't done anything wrong or without the full knowledge of the club

More:

Guinevere said "Harry is righty fuming. He wasn't late back from break. He arrived when he was expected to. The club knew this because they made the arrangements. They've let the story run, when they could have squashed it instantly by telling the truth. Not good. There are other parts to the saga, but on this part, Harry is in the right."
I met Paul Miller in a pub in Londom and had a few beers with him one Christmas. Lovely chap.

Agree with this. Harry is a world class player but lacks that winning mentality that will make him stand out against the best. I mean he will clearly win things at City, but so could Danny Ings, who by contrast, is not world class.

Aubameyang has even won stuff with an average Arsenal side, so it's going to take Kane moving to a fantasy football team to be able to become one of the greatest. I'd rather do a Shearer and stay at my boyhood club forever and have a statue made of myself outside the ground and maybe winthe odd FA cup. Or you can basically play in a team where you know you'll win trophies, just don't know which ones.

Sadly that then is a massive fail by Harry. He want to move but he has a contract. He has to suck it up, he cannot finesse this.

Yes, I dont disagree. The way out of this is for us to agree to sell him for £100m next summer - a good year from him will help us patch through the rebuild process and then having £100m to spend on a top young CF next summer would be idea. FOr him, there will more suitors next summer and a great year will help him get even better terms and a lower fee helps too

Do you take the main rebuilding hit in one summer (this) or drag it out over two?

I'd say drag it out over two. Rome wasn't built in a day, and tbh our only worry is Kane leaving. He's the one who is irreplaceable singurlarly but replaceable with 2 or 3 and making the team better. Still going to have some of the brickers like Davies, Winks, Sissoko, Dier, Sanchez on the books and will take time to shift.

I am disappointed in Harry who I held in high regard. I frankly don’t really give monkeys what Harry does or goes. If he hangs around I hope he scores us some goals.

Sonny has shown Harry up for me, a great and ‘loyal’ player. Nice on Son.
I’ll have to change my dogs name now!:)

Which is what he has been well paid to do.

People are angry with Harry because he's has and is actively looking to fudge the club on the way out, that simple. Harry Kane in today's market trying to force Spurs to accept £100M (that might not even be a full cash offer) is him outright fudging us three times, the impact of him leaving, not a fair price and by going this route the deal would never be done early therefore giving the club the least amount of time to find replacement.

Players have a relationship of a kind with fans, and like with any relationship past good times don't compensate for any/all sins. Based on your logic if your significant other has been cheating for the last two months, you shouldn't smear their reputation because they were good to you last year?
