The Rebuild

I think it started that summer, continued the following summer and will fingers crossed, be mostly complete after this window

Yes. I think a few will still be here next season - Dier, Winks, Doherty (though he's only been here a year), Moura, Dele, possibly Davies too

I think shipping them out along with Sissoko, Sanchez, Aurier etc is unlikely, however with those outgoings, in addition to those already shipped out, would be massive progress. The amount of new blood, along with a new manager, will bring a lot of freshness to the squad

worryingly no news on shifting sissoko and serge

Gone
- Toby, Jan, Lamela, Llorente, Trippier, Vorm, Gazza, Eriksen, Rose, Wanyama, KWP, Foyth (12)

In the sale window
- Winks, Sissoko, Dier, Sanchez (4)

Remaining
- Lloris, Skipp, Davies, Dele, Lucas, Son, Kane (7)

Added since then
- Lo Celso, Ndombele, Reguilon, PEH, Bergwijn, Rodon, Sessegnon, Gil, Gollini, Doherty (10)

So has the great "painful rebuild" started, is in progress or done by end of this window?

If we sign Romero, which looks likely but you never know, I would say the rebuild is seriously in progress. Skipp, Sess, Tanganga, Gil, Gollini, Romero could be added to Lo Celso, NDombele, Reguilon, PEH, Kane, Son, and possibly Alli and Bergwijn (14). Lloris is a bit of an outlier.

The fact that Davies, Moura, Dier and Doherty are still here, and are likely to be here after the summer, tells me that the rebuild is only in progress - not less but certainly not more. Most important task for Nuno in the next four/five months or so is to make those 14+ players really gel. Playing together is also part of the rebuild (the part Poch was so very good at).

The midfield is key I think, because Lo Celso, NDombele, PEH, Reguilon, Skipp, and Sess are very good players, but so far they have not gelled at all. Mourinho is to blame for that, but this is the main reason why I'm not quite sold on Hojbjerg yet. He would have to be the mortar between the stones, yet I have not been convinced by that aspect of his game.

And, afterthought: looking at the list of 14+ (which could include Rodon too), I believe we still need more defensive steel. So another CB would be very welcome.

Supposedly Serge's agent is working on his case (as Aurier wants to leave)
Sissoko had some interest earlier.

Unlike others who just want to see it as the club, the issue with these players is likely to be their wages more than what we want for them.

Dier and Sanchez out in this window would be a great transfer window.

Does it not strongly depend on what we'd do in terms of replacing them? I'm not sure how likely it is that we'll move on three of our 1st team centre backs in the same window.

Can't remember which thread it was but there was a post saying that all we need to do to get a good defence is buy 2 CB's, a leftback and a rightback. Hopefully all the other clubs won't cotton on to how easy it is to get it sorted...

It was wishful thinking more than anything. I’d settle for one of them going in this window. Sadly I’ve accepted that Dier will probably be here for at least another season. I just hope he doesn’t start many games. We appear to be shopping Sanchez around so hopefully he will be gone this window.

Who is that next to Skipp?

If we sell Kane, we're going to start getting close to our non-HG player limit arent we?

I dont profess to getting this all right but assuming we sell Sissoko, non HG players are:

Lloris
Gollini
Aurier or Tomiyasu
Dier or replacement
Sanchez or replacement
Romero
Reguilon
PEH
GLC
Tubby
Bergwijn
Son
Moura
Gil
Kane replacement
Back-up CF

= 16 for the PL
+ Davies + Rodon for Europe = 18, so someone has to be left out

So it means that replacements for Sissoko and Winks cant both be non-home grown, and we need to be careful with other additions

Anything wrong with the above?
