Next Manager?

Agreed was just joking. I'm pro DOF but just jabbing at those that think taking Levy off footballing decisions is the perfect answer.
When the wages offered aren't particularly high and you're offering the new manager zero transfer budget you could have Penn and Teller as DoF and even they wouldn't be able to magic up a credible candidate.

Though if Levy had vetoed this from Paratici, then assuming Paratici had any balls he'd have resigned. There's no point having a DoF is the Chairman will over-rule his very first decision.

In that case, Leve either had to accept the decision to appoint Gattuso, or accept that he'd lose a DoF within a month of him arriving
Maybe Levy refused to meet the tax implication on Fonseca's contract and the DoF has been forced to try to find somebody willing to accept whatever wage and transfer budget he has been given? (Not saying that is the case by the way - but who knows?).... The only certainty right now is that we sacked Jose before the end of last season and clearly had absolutely no plan at all.

Those expecting Levy to step back and let the DOF do the job will be very disappointed. With Fonseca I can imagine that Paratici came to the Chairman - "it's all done, Mr Chairman, Fonseca is secure, he would just like to have Luncheon Vouchers (for those who aren't old enough: PressReader.com - Your favorite newspapers and magazines. )and I have agreed that" Levy: "You've agreed what - I am not giving anybody Luncheon Vouchers, you have gone too far Patricio - tell him to F£$%k off and get me somebody who isn't greedy! "

I think we have been shambolic and used PR to make ourselves initially look better than we were before the bleep hit the fan (or us fans haha).
There's only so much you can try to use PR to make yourself look good as the shambles continues, hence i think reality comes to the fore more and more (and is harder to cover up using PR)

@billyiddo mate, I realise I’m never going to get you on this because I won’t be able to reveal absolute proof, but do you not find it in the slightest bit suspicious that on the week before season ticket renewal deadline day, all of the obviously connected journalists who called Paratici weeks before he was announced were pushing the Poch and Conte stories to the high heavens? I think we have all been had.

I’m sorry, but a club that ends up appointing the manager just sacked by Napoli is not the same club that can attract Conte. We were told a deal was close, he was the front runner. We were told Poch wants to come home, if only PSG would let him go. And then a week later, those stories drop stone dead and reality sits in. Poch is signing players he has always wanted because he can pay the wages, and Conte would rather wait it out for a better job.

I don’t know enough about Gattuso to say whether or not he will be a success. But the club that appoints him is not the club that can attract Poch back after being at PSG 6 months, nor a manager like Conte that demands excellence. I think we talked to them. I’m sure we would have loved it if *they* agreed to *our* demands, but we were led to believe those deals were serious and close, and they weren’t.

I think Levy has been found out -decent managers know that this job is a poisoned chalice - he won't back the Manager (or DOF) and will throw one of them under the bus when they fail - how else to distract from the failure to properly support them? Poch failed because he was worn out with the make do and mend approach... I give credit to ENIC for the wonderful stadium - but that is it - in terms of the team and winning things they are abysmal.

Jeez, it’s weeks later and you’re still banging on about your ‘connected journos’. The Paratici story came from Italy and then only picked up on here. Your wonderfully connected journos here claimed Poch was close once others had broke the story, until it was revealed elsewhere that it wasn’t happening. They jumped on the Conte story that broke from Italy saying it was almost done, again until it wasn’t happening. And we had your wonderfully connected journos still banging on today about Fonseca done, until guess what - it broke in Italy that it wasn’t.

The only one that has been had is you, for placing such emphasis on this nonsense…..

I think to be fair, this looks like an opportunistic Paratici call. But I would love to understand the thought process. I am dearly hoping it isn’t that he is 1.5m cheaper than the already cheap Fonseca.

What is it about him as a coach? His style? His track record? This needs to be explained in detail because it doesn’t make any sense? What makes him an obviously better choice than Fonseca even?

Sorry mate, you’re just wrong. What happened definitely is not that a few journos ‘picked it up from Italy’ and ran with it until proven wrong. Not at all.

Agreed. One of my main hopes with this appointment (no, my main hope) was that Spurs would be a club to be proud of again. For most of the last decade, we've been well run, played good football, some decent English players, built a brilliant stadium, outperformed etc...even though we made some errors and found ways of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Then we had the dark Mourinho years. I was hoping that even if we had limited transfer funds, we would go back to playing good football, with a manager who people would respect etc.

If we end up with this clown, we're going to have another turbulent 6-12 months after which our reputation will be even worse and we'll be looking for another manager
