Next Manager?

Because whoever we get will be wrong for over 50% of fans.

Tend to agree with this. This league is so much tougher physically than most leagues, that not knowing this league could be a real weakness. Let's hope Levy and the new DOF know what they are doing, and that we get the rub of the green in the first home game...

Well i am sure whoever we appoint will be wrong for s ome fans its obvious to see. However IF he gets the job then i do believe we should ALL get behind him and support him. I remember when we appointed " rent a quote" the liar and crook i was gutted but once he got the job he deserved my support as long as he was our manager. The same should happen for our next manager.

As for Levy he will always get stick by fans its what happens to most if not all chairman at times. We have a MAJOR job on the team to overall it and it will not be done over night and i hope all fans can see that, sadly i will not hold my breath on that happening.

No they won't

- Don't charge high prices for tickets and stop running my football club like a business and in the very same breath
- Buy Dias, pay Kane whatever he wants, buy, buy , buy ..
- Chris Cowlin and whoever random youtuber said this is underwhelming, so I'm angry !!!

A young manager without the circus and baggage who wants to play football is good enough for me to give him a chance

20 years with one (minor) trophy, whilst being charged some of the highest ticket prices in Europe, tends to do that.

Levy stepping back from football matters means (to me) not being directly involved in transfer negotiations - set the budget and let your DoF get on with the buying/selling, and wage negotiations for renewing contracts. But does anyone really expect that any club chairman is not going to have the final say over the person who will be the manager/coach? Of course it makes sense for the chairman to make the final call on footballing matters.

However, once it becomes clear that the incumbent doesn’t have a clue in this area then things become less clear.

Sad to say you are probably right about that.
 
To people saying this looks like Levy had no plan, I really disagree. I think it smacks of a plan. He is a manager really well suited to where we are as a club. He is if anything more proven than Poch was when he joined, as he has more experience competing in Europe.

The key thing for us is strategic alignment. Hiring someone who fits in with our constraints is more likely to see us be relatively successful. Hiring someone that will always need a little bit more than we can offer just won’t work.

Similarly, with Paratici I feel that he can work too. Juve is a different club to us but I feel he has a strong enough record of signing good players that would suit our budget too, he has network, people will take his call, he knows the standards of a huge club.

I agree with a point that was made that it looks like we are at the start of a journey again. All of the stuff about us maturing and getting closer after failing in a cup is a really good point. I don’t want to go right back to the start. I hope that if players like Dele and Winks and Sanchez stay, they are more mature and can get it done, so overall as a club we are further along than when Poch joined. And again, short of new owners I don’t think we have any other choice.

to what percentage of the fan base is ticket prices relevant?

If there is a time for a rebuild nows probably it. Clubs across europe needing to sell. Kane looking to be off. Might not be surprised if lloris, toby, dier followed him as well as the likes of winks and lamela. Replace them with the next generation of up and coming stars. Write next season off but have a long term aim to challenge.

You still actually think there is a 'plan'?....

I think we're just going further down the list and more and more candidates reject us/have demands that are considered to be too high in terms of transfer budget.

At least Paratici can suggest people who are good at working on a limited budget though. That should be an improvement.

Now as far as Fonseca is concerned, I'd worry more about the fact he made 6 subs in a game then that he lost 6-2 to Manure. That being said, though, his style of football does align with the Tottenham Way, so let's see what he can do first before slagging him off.

Come on.... Making 6 subs is an easy mistake to make..... I mean a man only has 5 fingers on one hand!

It didn't have to be this way. This is all down to Levy and his gross mis-management of squad turnover and managerial appointments.

Most expensive tickets in the league, shiny new stadium and now the message is that we're going for a long-term rebuild - don't expect too much too soon.

A shocking state of affairs and not one you can pin the blame on the incoming coach but fair or not, if he starts badly the atmosphere will turn very quickly.
And rightly so imo. The fella we've got at the top of the tree just doesn't seem to understand the football side at all, despite 20 years up close to it. I find it mind-boggling that we've now ended up going down this route. We really have very quickly frittered away our position in the top 4 and now likely, top 6.

If this is the DoF's choice I worry about what sort of washed-up Serie A players we're going to end up with who are totally unsuited to the PL.
We could be in a bigger mess in 3 years than we are now!

The thing I’m struggling with is whilst I try not to pay too much attention to media reports without quotes there were several links to other candidates pre a DoF.

I guess it’s possible that we managed to have a secret agreement in principle with Patirici before the Conte link, that we always planned to get a DoF before we hired a manager and many of the other links were tentative enquiries to disguise the fact we had been talking to Fonseca throughout the process.

I know we’ll never be privy to the real goings on internally and whilst it may be that this works out to be the best choice for us, the time it has taken to be linked with let alone announce these potential two appointments makes me think it wasn’t the original plan at all.

On a side note is it me or does it always feel that any announcement from us is always after it’s been widely reported, or is that just the way of the world that there is so much opportunity to share information and rumour nowadays that no one can keep a secret?!
