That account had over 6000 followers as little as 6 hours ago.. It also had his name spelt wrong so I'd suggest it's not real.

But Adebayor doesn't fit into our wage structure. If we're gonna splash out big wages it should be for a special player.
Leandro for instance will cost less than Adebayor when we add the wages and fees up over 3 seasons. And he could sold on for a profit.

I'm sorry, Leandro would NOT be better (or even nearly as good as) Adebayor. He has the worrying vibe of a Brazilian Bendtner to me...every time I watch him, I wait for evidence that he is befitting of a classic Brazilian number 9, and at this point, I don't think he'd worthy whatsoever. I keep looking for potential and don't see anything to suggest he will become anything more than a decent forward if he came to the Prem. In fact, I think he'd suffer here TBH. By all means save this and toss back at me with some egg if I get proven wrong (as long as it happened in a Spurs shirt I'd be happy enough!) but I'll say right now that for me, personally, Adebayor is a far, far better option than Damiao...BTW, forget wage structure, there are many, many ways of making up a wage packet, including signing-on fees and what-not. This one comes down to AVB, and the ONLY way I could see us NOT doing the deal is if we're seriously going to get a RM forward such as Higuain in part for Modders or if AVB wants to go break all records for Hulk (again, I'd rather Adebayor)...

Mate of mine in Spain says (according to the newspaper he reads - this is not an ITK attempt) that the Modric deal is completed. 40m euros + add-ons is the figure being reported. No player swap.

Bear in mind, that's just paper talk though. So who knows?

Makes sense...I think we asked for some pretty outrageous players in return, or just a LARGE straight-cash deal...Levy driving the best he can out of it...good for him, and kudos for not even bothering to contact British suitors!

Personally I like what I have seen and heard about him. And of course his impressive goal record of 69 goals in 114 matches for his club also helps. Ade is a good player but he seem to miss too many chances. Personally I do not think that both players are mutually exclusive

This. We need some sort of back-up to Ade (providing we get him), Defoe is not adequate in this regard..

an interview with Vertonghen from the Ajax website, posted yesterday

05 July 2012
The 2012-2013 season has officially begun for Jan Vertonghen. Ajax’s captain was on holiday last week due to interland commitments. Despite the rumours concerning him potentially leaving Ajax, he’s still part of the team for now. He prepares for the new season in De Lutte.
Vertonghen reported to Ajax on Monday in De Lutte with his customary good cheer and enthusiasm. According to his own count, it’s his fourth of fifth time. “But if you count the away matches against Heracles Almelo and FC Twente, I’ve been here very often. I’m familiar with the place.”

Despite a steady stream of transfer rumours over the past few months, Vertonghen is still officially part of Ajax. “The fact that there’s no clarity yet is obviously on my mind. It’s my future, after all. I can’t really say that I’m not thinking about it, because I definitely am. But it’s the way things are right now, so I’ll have to deal with it. The most important thing is to get fit again. I had a bad flu during my holiday, which meant I didn’t eat for a few days. So I’m still getting stronger. So I need to make sure I eat enough this week in De Lutte.”

Vertonghen spent the past weeks vacationing in Portugal, the south of France, and Barcelona. “I was able to rest. I visited Siem de Jong in Barcelona. He’s also my roommate this week in De Lutte. I’ve shared a room with him countless times during the past few years. Definitely during all of Ajax’s European matches and training camps, and also during the early away matches. We see each other privately as well. We know each other really well now. I see him more often than I see my girlfriend. It’s nice to know where you stand with each other. Siem is someone you can definitely count on, both on and off the field.” And, smiling: “And that’s important, because he’s the one who has the key to our room!”

As the transfer rumours play out in the background, Vertonghen focusses on Ajax. “Right now I’m playing with Ajax, so I’m going to give one hundred per cent. I’m a competitor, after all. And despite all of the ups and downs, this is the start of a new season for me. And that start is with Ajax. Of course we don’t know how long I’ll be here for, but there should be some clarity well before August 31 (transfer deadline). I’ll have made my choice by then. But for now, I’m focussing on Ajax.”

What do you base this on? Did you watch him last season? You'd have had every chance mate, Harry flogged the brick out of him and played him to the bone, often as a lone striker. He was excellent, and had he enjoyed a bit more rest, I'd say he'd have put another few chances away. Further, had the refs not been tossers, he'd have had three CLEAR goals (not even close decisions)...you should, IMHO, also place a "bit" more faith in AVB to have learnt from the Chelski situation, where I have NO DOUBT he was put up to the task of being ruthless and left stranded in no man's land by his "sponsors" when the brick hit the fan.

Let me ask you, who would YOU have instead of Adebayor who would have a similar first season?

I don't think that's true. Due the fact that we played very few first team regulars ever in the Europa League, none of the first choice players played too many games last season. Take Ade for example. In all comps he made just 37 apps for us. Compare that to some peers. RvP 48 apps, Rooney 44 apps. There is no way that Ade needed a rest.

I don't think he will ever be. He has a couple of Brazilian type tricks up his sleeve, but the few times I've watched him he looks more like a target man with a fair turn of pace. For the money to acquire him I think it's a big risk, but if Spurs are interested they must see something in the guy.

Also further to the above, didn't Ade retire from international football? Those apps above for RvP and Rooney don't take into further games they played internationally. And as Ade retired from international football he would have got a nice rest then too.

Not that it really matters. In terms of physical fitness footballers should be able to cope with 2 games a week, 40 weeks a year without fatigue. It's only 180 minutes (and not all of it's high intensity). Even their training sessions aren't that long compared to other athletes and you can just have lower intensity training sessions (or even days off from training) to help them recover.

What does effect most players, is that most of them are carrying an injury during the season. That's why players sometimes struggle to recover between matches. You have a groin strain, and the couple of days after a match will be sore. You then go into another match, you aren't going to have full flexibility etc. It's nothing to do with tiredness or being worn out.

In the second half of the season I would often read or hear that Ade was a doubt yet he'd be in the starting eleven. His form dipped during this time and I noticed on a fair few occasions he looked like he was carrying a hamstring injury as he lost his acceleration off the mark.

That's possibly more accurate. Although it would have been an injury that wouldn't have stopped him playing (clearly, because he did play!). To be honest, the same thing happed to Ade at Arsenal. I would suggest the real reason is far more simple. Ade's form drops when the days get colder.

I would be extremely disappointed if we only got in one striker. I want us to bring in Ade but it is evident and obvious that we need TWO strikers. I dont want a situation where a)we over play Ade and b) become so reliant on Ade that if he gets injured we get fudged.

I wouldn't be shocked if AVB wants to play with a false number 9, and have VDV as the lone forward. However I did put this to someone who has followed his career very closely and he said that AVB is too proud and stubborn to try and copy someone else's system and is determined to prove that his style and system is the way forward, so that would contradict that theory.

I wonder if Ade's form is somehow linked to global warming....
