OOMT - Tottenham vs Emirates Marketing Project

Nah mate the squad is gash and has been getting worse year on year. The champs league was great and everything, but people are turning it into this holy grail type thing when in actual fact we just put together 3 good games in a favourable cup run. Getting to the champs league final does not mean a great deal in itself, it did not make this team special just to get there.
I think we have to agree to disagree. There are some holes in important areas as there were at the time of the Champions League run but this team Eriksen and vertonghen aside has more talent and strength in depth. You have Kane and Son who could make any team in the PL. Dele, Ndombele, Lo Celso (albeit perennially injured) Reguillon, Holbjerg and Lloris very good. Then decent Toby, Aurier, Moura, Lamela (yes perennially injured and one footed) Bergywn. Promising, Rodin, Tanganga, Vinicius, Sessegnon and Skipp. I even wonder if managed differently could a manager get a tune out of Bale. Is he really as bad as what we are seeing?

So that leaves , Dier Sissoko, Davies Doherty and Sanchez who are not good enough. So it's not Armageddon in my opinion. But we do have to upgrade the CBs.

Sorry but I think we’re back to over rating players IMO
Dele hasn’t been the dele of old for some time which is why PSG wanted him in case theh could get old dele
Toby and Hugo are on the way down
Lamela and Moura are more than good enough with Kane and son against half the league I’d agree
I do agree with your promising list
I just see no senior CB being good enough and a weak link behind them now. It’s not inspiring and of course just my opinion.

I think Hugo is debatable. I could be swayed either way. But. I would definitely change the 2 centre halves and Davies first. Sissoko well he has done a job, but we need to move on from a player so limited on the ball and we have the likes of Ndombele to break the lines. Dele, super talented who I am not ready to give up on yet. Otherwise though still a lot of talent there.

Thankfully none of my brighton supporting mates read this forum, I would be laughed at for suggesting it but Dunk is actually a solid defender and a leader. He also talks the whole game which none of our players ever do. I can also see why the persistent links to Diop at West Ham.

Mourinho is a fan of Diop. After Wham beat Man U once he said congrats to the Wham scouts for finding him.

Talent doenst work without application
He hasn’t got it here currently (he lost it when Poch was here)
A move is as good for him as it would be for the club of we can get good ££ for him.
Hugo’s game has changed since his injury and it’s affected his style of play. It’s not good for the pace of this league IMO

Agree this team has too many poor passers and is too prone to error at the back, but for me it's also our lack of high intensity in the press that is letting us down.

Game after game opponents hound us out of possession but when they have the ball our press is by contrast relatively half-hearted. Today City taught us a lesson in how to win the ball and dominate possession but even poor opponents regularly find it easy to out-fight us and launch counter-attacks. It's like the rest of the PL have sussed that we struggle to cope with a really intensive press so that's what they set about doing from the off to disrupt our game. Some are more successful than others but it's happening too often for comfort.

Especially as it seems the longer this goes on the more it seems to be spreading like rotten apples through to our quality players like Kane, Hojbjerg, Son and even Ndombele.

So, either we up our intensity in the press to match our opponents or imo our present decline will continue until Levy is inevitably forced to pull the trigger.

Yeah, even with the deeper positioning today I still wanted Kane to be badgering their cb’s and keeper when they were playing out.

I’d be looking to build the back around:

Tang
Rodon
Reggy
Poss Dier as an experienced option

Then I’d be looking to add:

Good quality CB
Ricardo Pereira

Davies/youngster can be 2nd choice to Reggy providing Reggy doesn’t become injury prone.

Aurier as cover at RB.

Then we need to settle on a back 4 with a maximum of one change game to game if required and where possible. Not wholesale changes to personnel and systems.

West Ham picked up Craig Dawson. Leic picked up Jonny Evans. These players would be scoffed at on here but the reality is they are reliable and require minimal coaching. I’m not for one minute saying these players should be our targets, but if Wham and Leic can find cheap, reliable solutions that hit the ground running, then why can’t we?

Mings and Tarkowksi would be ones I’d be looking at in terms of the Prem. Both have another level in them and would hold their value.
Jonny Evans was scoffed at by most on here back when he was available.

He is to tired, as well as us he plays meaningless friendlies for England. It has a toll on his body. If he had had a 2 week break around the time of our first fa cup match you would be seeing a different kane right now.
