Better to answer that on 31 Aug when we know what the squad looks like and what others have done (eg is Arse lose RvP then my expectations for us would be higher). However from what I see today I would hope that he installs a way of playing into the team (and club) in order that we start to build a system (similar to how Wenger has done at Arse) and that if we dont finish 4th then we're bloody close to 4th. I think, most likely, Cheatski will be 3rd and its us or Arse or maybe Saudi Sportswashing Machine for 4th. I would onyl expect us to be 5-10 points from 3rd though, unless cheatski have a blinding season.

All can change a lot between now and 31 august though given that we have some fundamental changes to our team to make (eg CF, losing Modric potentially, getting in a CB) and how those things go will determine what we can achieve

I personally think that's an easy excuse. What other teams doesn't matter, we're either expected to punch above our weight or not. Also in terms of players we bring in, as AVB will be making those decisions it's irrelevant to judge season expectations on what players come in, go out.

What would be acceptable in your opinion? Personally I think we should be top six next season regardless of transfer dealings.

If Harry treated the club, fans and Levy with some respect then I would give him some. You have to earn respect however the way he acts he doesnt deserve that much. Also, we were the 5th best last year

I also think there is a reasonable amount of work for AVB to do given that we need 2 CFs, need to get a long term keeper in, sign a CB and a winger

I was never a Redknapp fan but to be fair he has treated the club with due respect since his sacking. Can't think of any real bad-mouthing he has done.

The thought that Bale was going backwards until Redknapp got hold of him made me laugh ..... seeing as Redknapp was ready to shift him out of the club until BAE got injured and he had to give Bale a run.

so many marriages end in divorces ... and maybe its someone's fault, but perhaps its just a poor match.

we've been dithering around 4th/5th for so long now, I think its time to take a gamble and see if we can make that step forward. If breaking into top 4 is hard enough, going from 4th to 3rd and winning it is even harder. With limited resources (finance) we have to take risks ... and this is a calculated risk I am willing to support.

its the Spurs way... TO DARE IS TO DO!

Think about Fergie and how he started with United. They could have easily given him the chop. In fact, if Abramovich was in charge of them back then, he would have been sacked in his third season when he nearly got relegated. Lucky for them they had more patience for managers back then.

So AVB had a cracking start and then a wobble, how gutted would we be if he got snapped up by a competitor and went on to give them a decade of stability and some success on the pitch? Life's a gamble.

It depends on teh transfers. The only way that finishing below Saudi Sportswashing Machine or Liverpool is acceptable (ie below 5th place), I think, is if we dont get teh right calibre of CF in and dont replace Modric with someone suitable. Saudi Sportswashing Machine have nothing beyond their first 11 and Liverpoo are still average

but he wasnt thought was he?

Wasn't he? We heard of the Tevez 'bid' but that was never going to happen whether Harry was flavour of the decade or not - silly wages, silly price and City wouldn't have allowed it given we were only 4 points behind them in the league at the time. Cahill had decided to go to Chelsea - wouldn't have mattered what we had offered by all accounts at the time.

Which deals did Harry want to make that were realistic and Levy pulled the plug on?

Actually, let's move on - we've chewed this cud far too often in the last 6 weeks.

Since we've been 3/4 best team in the country in the last few years it seemed those policies had worked especially the 'run around a bit' one.......

Have some respect please on where we were a few years back and what AVB will come into,a club on a downward spiral no,a club on an upward curve he will come into, with no major surgery needed at all.

No major surgery needed at all?

Except one of the oldest squads in the league?

Friedel - Ancient!
Gallas, King - Gone
Parker - aging
No strikers

And we finished 5th TWICE under Jol....so I remember VERY WELL where we were thanks.

Ramos was brick and STILL won more that Saint Harry.

Basically you don't have a fudging skooby.

So acted like a clown shoe got him number one choice to be england manager with all the big players in england. What managers/players say he was disrespectful to them or to the club, any examples or is it all the usual made up crap that has been said so so so many times on here ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

You got to remember you could pin point some of those things at AVB with his time at Chelsea especially being disrepectful to his own players.

4th by the way,Saudi Sportswashing Machine 5th,chelski 6th wasn't it.

Levy doesnt know what he is doing.

Apart from Redknapp, hes been appointing brick managers for ten years now.

He should just spend some money and shut up.

he didnt even fully want Redknapp

Levy is under pressure

I think it's fair to say that AVB would be an appointment looking at a bigger picture than this.

Got it in one.

With or without a new manager next season was going to be a severe test and to a degree transitional.

It looks like this summer we will lose(or have lost) Gallas, King, Modric, Nelsen, Saha, Adebayor and maybe even VDV.

Had Harry stayed thats a huge rebuilding job, and "Top 4 or else" would have been an unfair target.

Now that we will have a new manager in the mix as well as those issues "Top 4 or else" (next season) seems even more foolish.

I would love to see us compete next season. I dont expect it though. Dependsing on how quickly and effectively AVBs ideas take hold we could still push for top 4, and if we look like we could/should by the end of the season (perhaps after a slow start) I would be happy.

It will set us up for much more positive seasons the following years

He is dreaming. Although I don't agree we have a transitional team. That's already an excuse that is being lined up in case of failure. Our first team is young and even if Modric goes it, theoretically, would only be two different players from what we had last season.

There is certainly no huge rebuilding job.

But we should be delighted with 4th.

If you have a squad of 20+ players and an average stay of 4-5 seasons you need at least 4 new players each season.
