It stops becoming a personal choice when there are potential victims involved

Every time someone exercises personal choice and goes against the then current rules/guidance, they risk either spreading the virus if they are asymptomatic carriers or refusing to self-isolate (even if sometimes for understandable reasons), or catching it themselves and potentially becoming another pressure-point on the health service.

I think we need to substitute the words 'personal choice' with 'self interest'...even before this pandemic its rife, entrenched in society. So when a pandemic comes along and you may have to think of others, of everyone. Show a little empathy, sympathy and do whats best for the greater good, good luck with that. 'Personal choice' implies someone has thought about it and made a choice based on that analysis, sadly i don't think thats the case...they're thinking about 1 thing, themselves.

It's not just Granny either. It's people in their 50's+. It's people who are immunocompromised - no @scaramanga, not just obese people.

To lump all victims together as old people who are going to die soon anyway, it's wrong.

It's disturbing how many people use this to justify total selfishness and complete lack of empathy. Important decision makers, not just forum-dwelling crackpots.

What about the effects on the rest of society. I'm not talking about going on holiday or going to the football. But making sure that jobs keep going.

We should have shut air travel down but I know why Johnson did not, Trump was accused of racism when he did it at the start. Johnson wants to be seen as this great liberal prime minister who does not want to force people to do it.

He is also wrong about Christmas which should be cancelled same as the other religious festivals have. His and the government's response to the pandemic has been very poor. The Germans are shutting down for Christmas and rightly so. Johnson is to image conscious and does not want to be seen as telling people what to do. In a crisis like this we need the sort of leader who could do that.

The government's response has been poor and shows no sign of improvement. It is right to be critical of them, without the pathetic and nationalistic gloating of some overseas posters.

Wales are now modifying their Christmas rules so that only 2 households can mix, and are then going back into lockdown from 28th, with other restrictions coming in from Christmas Eve.

Wasn't there a study and found it's ROUGHLY £100bn a year which is less than the Bank Bailout from 2008? Of course counting inflation the disparity would be even bigger.

I believe for the annual cost of furlogh, it's slightly over what we are spending on Trident.

Now is the perfect time to change society for something better and I really could get behind that actually.

Being in NATO with other nuclear powers should be enough for that.

Potential changes in the US system could push our Trident costs up a lot in future too.

I have put all these in one post to save repeating myself, they are all great posts and its good to see that there are some on here who actually care about others. There are some dreadful selfish posts over the last couple of pages ( and its sad to see) but these are excellent.

Its not really

Its ok to ruin the prospects of the millions of young in society or someone losing their home is a small price to pay so long as you get to spend Christmas with Granny in a warm house next year? Hardly the height of selflessness your making it out to be.
