Harry Winks

We would need another passing capable CM if both Ndombele and Winks were to leave. It would leave us far to reliant on GLC to create and set the tempo much like we did in the earlier Poch era with Eriksen. One injury to GLC and that midfield would look incredibly blunt once again.

Fair point - don’t know if Gedson or Skipp could provide that though? Haven’t seen enough of either of them to be sure, I guess Jose will have a much better idea from training.

Gedson is a mystery so far and, right now, it's difficult to see a justification for us paying the apparent fee to make the transfer permanent. But there's still time for him to play regularly and show us something

My only concern about selling Winks is the number of homegrown players we'd have to sign to get back up to the minimum.

In the PL there is no minimum, just a maximum of 17 none home grown players in a squad. UEFA have different rules regarding the minimum number of home association qualified players, which I suppose is still an issue considering we are qualified for the EL.

I still think he’s got something , will be good to see him alongside a holding midfielder in some games, save him having to perform a role that’s not his forte, like he has for the last year.

would definitely keep personally.

All depends if we can’t to keep the ball or not
On the basis our tactics last season means we don’t need the ball it could be argued he is wasted
But I don’t think for one second they want him, we don’t want to sell him and it’s all paper talk and bull

I like him a lot, I think he has an incredibly high ceiling technically, but I worry about his mentality, does he have the arrogance and demanding nature required?

I agree with @Bedfordspurs that its paper talk, every player has their price though, I’d sell Lamela if the fee was high enough.

One more?

We require 8 "Homegrown" players. We have 9 in our current first team:

Winks - Emirates Marketing Project?
Kane
Alli
Sessegnon - loan?
Skipp
Tanganga
Whiteman
Clarke - loan?
Rose - probably leaving

The nine could soon become 5.

...and the challenge which we have with few HG players is that English often cost a fortunate and we dont have much cash this summer.

Hence Callum Wilson makes a good deal of sense as a back-up CF if the price is £10m, and the suggestion of Butland for £8m as back-up keeper isnt entirely daft either

hart/foster/butland if the price is right

Just to be clear in the PL you don't require any minimum number of homegrown players. You just can't have more than 17 foreign association developed players in a squad of 25. So you could if you wanted to have no English developed players and just have a squad of 17.

In UEFA competitions the rules are different, you have to have at least 8 home association developed players and 4 from your own academy.

Is there any practical difference for us between required and spots for HG players?

I thought we just ended up registering young players as HG, players that would otherwise be eligible to play even if not registered due to their age?

I do get that the difference between association trained and club trained makes a difference.

I believe we did that in the past, I was trying to look earlier into the specific rules to see if UEFA had changed that in the updated set that came out a couple of years ago but haven't found anything yet. So I would guess that we could indeed just register youngsters if pushed.
