What actual reason is there for leaving Carrick out? It's just so weird. He plays every week almost for title challengers, and has a style of football completely suited to the International game. He is good at keeping shape - thereby you'd think tying in with what Roy wants - but he is overlooked by every single manager, and has been for years.

Why? So we can see more Stevie-me ball hogging/hollywood passes or downright averageness of Barry?

same reason P.Neville has more caps for England than Hoddle - when it comes to technical players England just don't have a clue what to do with them

..........can't see them going any furthur then.......should have appointed de matteo as manager....

It is very important to win the group generally anyway and this is where England often let themselves down. We've only won the group stage in three tournaments that I can remember in the last 25 years odd and we reached the semi finals on two of those occasions (1990 and 1996). We should have reached the final in 2002 and 2004 but finishing 2nd meant meeting the two strongest teams in the competition in the quarter finals, instead of the final. Frustrasting to say the least.

Feel for Lennon, seems he's the victim to his reputation, ie no end product. For me though he's been so much better of late, like he's finally sorted it out.

Makes you wonder how tuned in Hodgson is given he's only had a fortnight to get his feet under the table.

Not sure Defoe should be on the plane though. For sure he has a decent scoring ratio this season but he contributes so little else to the team as a whole.

2 Yids in the England squad, 3 in the Croatia squad, plus no John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole or Steven Gerrard. I'm supporting Croatia.

Modric still hasnt committed to Spurs, fcuk Croatia

table ?

Lennon has 3 goals and 6 assists in 23 games this season
Walcott has 8 & 11 in 35

Walcott also plays in a 4-3-3 whereas Lennon is mostly in a 4-4-2 and actually does some defending. The "clear chances created" stats show Lennon with twice as many as Walcott.

It depends how far you want to go with stats. Just going on what I see when watching games... In a 4-4-2 I'd have Lennon every single time bar none, in a 4-3-3 then yea I'd probably go with Walcott, but mainly because Lennon hasn't really had the chance to play there for any length of time before, so not sure if he could convert the chances as well as Walcott sometimes does.

Boring, uninspired squad selections.

Just what was to be expected when the FA took the safe route (again) and selected steady, uninspiring Roy Hodgson. Boring boring boring England.

Are we ever, ever going to see the end of the Gerrard-Lampard combination? Didn't work when they were in their prime and they'll probably still be picked together when they're 45.
