***OMT - Spurs vs FC Barcelona***

Anybody excited for tomorrow ??

It's a bit like an anxiety dream. You suddenly have an exam, only it's a subject you had no idea you were supposed to be studying, and all the questions seem to be in a foreign language, and suddenly Spurs have to play Barcelona, but for some reason there's no Eriksen or Vertonghen or Dele or Aurier or Dembele and so we have a midfield of Sissoko and Dier, and then you realise you aren't wearing any clothes.

I think our only hope is that we have no hope, which now means I’m expecting us to play so so well and win 3-2.

It's a one off cup game where anything can happen.
Maybe we're not in great shape or form but barca aren't exactly tearing it up either.
A defeat isn't the end of the world either, we can still take 9 points and qualify.

This will be a historic match against Barcelona in the CL. We have only met Barcelona twice in Europe before, drawing 1-1 at home and losing 0-1 away as we lost to them 1-2 in aggregate in the 1982 Cup Winners Cup semi final. Barcelona went on to win the CWC that year but they were not as strong as now. It is going to be tough to face Messi and Barcelona who have won 3 of the last 4 Spanish league titles. We did beat Real Madrid at home in the CL last season but they still went on to win the CL. We need a similiar performance against Barcelona.

We need all the players to lift their game in this match. Kane has not been at his best this season but still has scored 5 goals in the league. It will help us greatly if he can score a goal or two in this match. Surely, Lamela has to start this match. He has been in great form this season, scoring 3 goals. His work rate and creativity will be help us greatly against Barcelona. After all, we were winning 1-0 against Inter Milan when Lamela was playing and only lost 1-2 after he was replaced. Hope Pochettino will learn from the Inter Milan match. Moura started the season in great form but has gone quiet in recent matches. Despite that, Moura should start this match over Son who has not scored in his last 16 matches for us. We will miss Eriksen and Alli if they are still out injured.

This match will be won or lost in midfield. We have to control the midfield to have any chance of winning this match. Our midfield have not been consistent this season due to injuries. Will prefer if we start Wanyama and Dembele in midfield even if they are not fully fit. Dier and Winks are too error-prone and will be too risky to play against Barcelona. I think Sissoko will do a better job than Winks to cover the midfield.

We have to be worried about our defence. We have been conceding too many goals this season. If Vertonghen is out injured, it is going to be even more difficult for us. We have to hope Sanchez will have an error-free match with Alderweireld in defence. It will help us if Lloris is back from injury in goal. His experience in goal will help calm the defence even if Gazzaniga did well in the last 3 matches. Let's hope the defence will play to their best form and help us stop the Barcelona attacks.

It is going to be a tense match for us. We need all the players to play their best game and avoid getting overawed against Messi and Barcelona. It will help us greatly if we can score an early goal to settle our nerves. Let's hope we will turn up with the right team and mentality to get a historic win over Barcelona.

Everybody dance now!

We seem to be getting too many injury problems this season. We need all the available players to play their best match against Barcelona. A draw will be acceptable against Barcelona but since we are playing at home and have a poor record away in Europe, we need a win. Let's hope we will put up a good performance and get the historic win over Barcelona.

no, Hal

if they play a direct route to our backline, i fear we'll be blasted !

but hey, this is the type of game i have been waiting for all these decades - so, bring it !!!

Against Huddersfield our ball retention was horrendous, we just kept hacking it away, no calmness to pick a pass.
Against Barca this could prove our undoing, give those lads the ball and you won't see it again until kick-off.

Was thinking exactly the same. As dangerous as Son and Moura are, they just don’t keep the ball as well and Dele and Eriksen.

So we go into a game against possibly the best ball retention team in the world, with a midfield pairing of any two from Wanyama, Winks, Dier or Sissoko.

GHod help us.

Really hope Poch is a bit more pragmatic for this one - if we defend a bit deeper, let them have the ball and then pounce and break with Kane / Moura / Son, I can see us looking dangerous and getting a result.

If we insist on trying to pass it out from the back and/or pressing them high up the pitch for most of the 90 minutes, I fear a spanking...

Prove me wrong one way or the other lads!

If we sit back and let them have the ball, i think they'll grind us down and find the pockets of space. Our midfield isn't anywhere near up to the likes of Rakitic and Coutinho's guile and skill, whilst we've seen how our defence struggles big time against a lively front three that are full of running and movement between the lines.

But as you said, the alternative of passing out from the back doesn't fill me with confidence either. It's got a Liverpool kind of game feel about it.

Guess that's what comes from playing possibly the best footballing team in Europe. The combination of those injured couldn't have come at a worse time for me.

Prove me wrong Spurs.
