Summer 2018 transfer thread

We were buying up the Wingate estate piece-by-piece (except Archway) from back in the Sugar days, so perhaps it's confusion with that?
No, the club purchased a lot more than that. Pretty much every property that became available in the immediate vicinity of the stadium has been purchased by the club over the last decade plus, especially those to the West and North of the stadium. I think even very recently the club acquired another building in the terrace that includes Percy House.

the rumour said it was under a load of holding companies not Tottenham so it would be Joe Lewis / Levy who are quids in rather than Tottenham but would mean we are comfortable with the costs.

Complete flimflam probably but it beats beating the Zaha rumour to death again doesn't it.

"With you on that but sadly the reality is very different ...

Spuds / Levy / Lewis through holding companies had been buying up land and property around their old ground for the last ten years, nobody's 100% sure but fair to say they bought a lot ... most on the cheap

With the redevelopment of the site that land has been used for the new stadium, supermarket, offices, college, hotel, housing, with several high-rises yet to come ...

The land they own outside of the stadium site will be developed by the council as part of the 'regeneration' of the local ****hole ...

Here's the rub ... it's estimated the Spuds spent some 350m on land and buildings, it's also estimated that the land left over after the stadium build could be worth as much as 700m ...

All this was done with the 'support' of the local council ... clever feckers those Spurs ....."

I'm calm too, but more in the 'resigned' sense. We just don't really push ourselves in the market until push comes to shove - our core approach of waiting for leftovers and scraps at the very end of the window will likely continue until Levy and ENIC leave.

And life's too short to get angry at something Levy's done for 18 years and will do until the day he croaks, more or less. Additionally, we still might end up with some fantastic players at the end of this window, so I'm not going to definitely judge one way or another.

But you have to wonder if this is what 'being brave' means.

As for trying to sell before we buy, we can still sell after the 'buying' window closes. There is a negotiating disadvantage that comes with that approach (i.e, European clubs will know that we need to sell to balance our books), but we can't avoid that given the way the window is structured this time.

Sharpening those pins for your Levy doll, i bet.

If we do not sign anyone, and I mean anyone is it really a disaster? As long as we do not let anyone go like Toby or Dembele for example. Yes signings bring excitement and something new to the squad but what about consistency and Poch trusting in our current players, that's got to help for morale amongst the players.

Moura is pretty much a new signing or will be I think. Plus for our current positions is there anyone out there that would bring anything better to those positions? Unless you're signing someone like Mbappe, Bale then I'd say no.

Keeping Dembele will be like a new signing
Keeping Toby will be like a new signing
Moura with a pre Season will be like a new signing
Lorente with a pre Season will be like a new signing
The new Stadium will be like a new signing
Winks coming back from injury will be like a new signing

I think I have them covered.

Do you think we'll keep Toby though, or keep Dembele and him be reliably fit?

As ever, we cant judge a window until it is complete.
As ever, as a club, we are like Fort Knox when it comes to leaks etc.
As ever, as a club, we seem to be targeted in the press, because lets be honest - its easy (given we just let them get on with it).
As ever, as fans, most are reaching the point where the press narrative all summer combined with our lack of movement yet has their heads exploded. Toys are being thrown, feet are being stamped.
As ever, to do so at this point is really quite foolish, and I expect plenty to feel quite silly about it once they have calmed down.

FACTS?

- We havent bought anyone yet. But would have liked to.
- We have made some major contract renewals though.
- We have 2 weeks to buy the 2 or 3 players we need.
- We have a team more than strong enough already to start the league.

So whats the fuss about now? Oh! Of Course! Liverpool bought Shakiri o_O

Sums it up perfect imo, but you know as well as i do sense will not stop the.

I hope we do for at least this year but sadly no I do not think we will keep both, maybe only Dembele and as he gets older then I think his injuries will get worse. I think we should be signing a replacement for him whilst he is still here. Or look to promote Winks a bit more when fit.

That, as they say, is the multi-million-pound question?

If we keep Dembele and Aldervareld it will help but if they both don't want to stay then?

True. I can see us doing some late activity ins and outs but if we didnt and kept everyone we have now then I would be happy, a little bit deflated as signings are exciting but overall would be happy we have not lost anyone. How good would it feel to secure 2nd, 3rd or 4th with not selling or signing anyone when our rivals have all spent £100m plus? It could backfire but sometimes little change has a positive effect.

I'm all for continuity and not panic-buying but we need a couple of top class players to push what we have and to freshen things up. It could go stale if we keep the same players year after year.

I am surprised we haven't done anything in this window yet. My feel from Poch's comments and contract signing was that we would do things somewhat differently but we still have a couple of weeks to go.

5pm on 9th August so not even 2 weeks!

A lot of it wasn't by the club per se either. It was by Bahamas-based, ENIC-associated companies called things like TH Properties Ltd etc. It was all being kept off the clubs' books for tax/borrowing or other reasons.

I'm all for the current crop - will be very hard to better them. What worries me is with the current fitness concerns in midfield and our cluster of early away games, we might find ourselves a little behind the pack. I wouldn't mind one quality box to boxer if I'm honest.

A look at the current squad (in theory, gone with 3 at the back and similar midfield setup that was used near the start of last season):

----------------lloris
------toby----sanchez----vert
trippier------wanyama------davies
----------eriksen------dele
-----------------son
----------------kane

------------gazaniga/vorm (think Gazza might take no.2 spot this season)
-------foyth------dier------ccv
aurier-----------dier-------------rose
------------winks------lamela/dembele
----------------moura
---------------lamela (played this role a couple of times last season, Chelsea away?)

I've not included Sissoko, Llorente, N'Koudou and Janssen. We might keep Sissoko, don't think we will keep the others. Without these players included, that's 21 players. Because of injuries/World Cup, I'd be tempted to keep Sissoko for now, so that'd be 22 players.

Other youngsters -- KWP, Onomah, Sterling (only included those who have played some first team games in the past).

I think the squad is in pretty good shape tbh, capable of different systems. A Zaha type player might be a useful option, though if Moura kicks on then might not be necessary. More natural cover for Kane is desirable, not essential though imo (look how slick out attack was v Chelsea away last season, once Lamela moved up top and the others playing off of him).

If some players coming back from injury return to form (Wanyama, Winks) and if some youngsters can keep progressing (Winks again, Foyth or CCV, KWP/Onomah perhaps) then we have an excellent first XI and pretty strong backups.

The one big positive for getting 'quality' new recruits in is it shows intent to everybody in the club and most importantly to the current elite players.
They must see that 'their' club has continued ambition.

Also, just to add -- the versatility of some of our players makes us that bit stronger.

For example, the first choice back 3 of toby---sanchez----vert. What if Toby and Vert get injured again this season, backups of Dier/Foyth/CCV looks a bit ropey? But, we can move Davies to the left side of the 3. dier---sanchez--davies doesn't look so bad, Rose as lwb. What if Wanyama is injured at the same time, then Dier has to play midfield? Not necessarily, Winks or Dembele can do that job there. Rose out injured too, so Davies has to play on the left and not at centre-back? We still have KWP and Aurier who can operate on the left.

Poch has quite a lot of options imo. If we want to add to this squad, it needs to be a quality addition who gives us something we lack, which is why the Zaha links make some sense, even if he is a bit over-priced.
