World Cup 2018 Group G (Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England)

Has anyone worked out yet if 1st or 2nd offers the better route through the knock outs?

We have Uruguay/Portugal V France/Argentina and Brazil/Mexico V Winner of G/Runners-up of H in one half and then have Spain/Russia V Croatia/Denmark and Sweden/Switzerland V Runners-up of G/Winners of H in the second half. I think the second half must be the easiest but then there is Sweden against whom England have a very poor record.

I think both England and Belgium have an unfair advantage on other teams as their match is being played last. Not sure why is this so since based on alphabetical order

Yes this seems strange, had presumed group H was tomorrow.

Right now it's blatantly miles better to finish 2nd in the group, so could be a strange game.

The only exception is if Columbia win Group H which would be a tougher game than Japan / Senegal imo.

Love the assumption we stand a better chance of progressing by finishing second in Group 2. WALOB! Germany just got knocked out be unfancied SK ffs!

Time to ditch all this bull and get on with the job of beating whichever team is in front of us. That way we might just stand a chance.

England V Belgium have potential to be the worst match of this World Cup. Both have already qualified to the Second Round and don't need to win this match. Since the group winners gets into the harder half of the knockout stages, both will try to lose or at least get many yellow cards to avoid winning this group. Don't be surprised if the likes of Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Kane, Trippier, Alli, Rose, Dier or Walker concedes stupid penalty, scores own goal or gets silly yellow cards. Even worse, we might not even see the regulars. Both might field team full of reserves. I think both England and Belgium have an unfair advantage on other teams as their match is being played last. Not sure why is this so since based on alphabetical order, matches of Group H containing Colombia, Japan and Senegal supposed to have been played last. It seems like someone is trying to help England win the World Cup this time as they have had easier qualifying and Final groups and now have the chance to decide which teams they play in the knockout stages.

Panama V Tunisia will be all about how many goals Tunisia scores. Both are easily the worst teams of this World Cup. Panama celebrated wildly after scoring against England. Wonder what they will do if they do score against Tunisia.

No player is going to try to get a yellow card. That's far too risky if we do progress. For players rotated-in, it is a chance to stake their claim for a place in the next starting 11.
I believe Southgate when he says we will go out to win. I don't think we will exhaust ourselves in the process, but the aim will be to win. Which imo is the right approach.

Southgate did say he would consider throwing the game.

He also said: “If I go and head-butt Roberto [Martínez] in the final five minutes then you know we are taking a different approach to going through!” :D

BBC is saying Dier starts but with nothing in the article to back that up. It's just a caption under a photo.

They sound like they have the team the way they are discussing it in the studio.

I think it was Dier in, TAA and Rose in, Rashford and Vardy in.

Edit. Here is the team. Eight changes and one is Loftus-Cheek who came in when Alli was injured.

And Belgium make nine changes. It's a lesser Hazard.

I actually think FIFA need to take action against England and Belgium here.

It should not be acceptable to make this amount of changes and actively look to lose.

What if they both think their rotated sides can beat the others?

It's got to suck to be Danny Welbeck - everyone who's been on the bench gets a chance, except for the poor old gooner. :p

Les Ferdinand in the Norwegian studio now, giving some insight on Harry Kane from when him and Chrissy where coaches at Tottenham back in 2013.
He says that they thought Harry had the potential to become a decent premier league player, but nothing like what he has become. He said that if anyone from the staff says otherwise they're lying! They believed he could have a decent career in the Premier League ,but not much more, as he didn't have any pace.
