Dele Alli

The banal media make my blood boil questioning a 21y.o with his undoubted talent

Its not just the media though ( i do agree about them) its some Spurs fans as well, i have read so much RUBBISH/ gonad*S from some of our own fans about how poor he is and overated, Jesus the KID is only 21 and still learning the game. He will become a future legend as a player.

Already a legend for a 21 yo in my book

What? All I've read recently is that he's having a terrible season and deserves to be subbed by Poch early in games and dropped by Southgate for Engerland. Just shows that statistics can tell you what you want them to tell you!

It’s because their comparing him to Lingard... which I just find odd

As I’ve said many times lately, lindgard doesn’t t even start for united regularly and their attack is gash

If we as a nation want to pick the World Cup team based on players performing in friendlies against sides that didnt qualify then we have bigger problems than I realised

Alli is being compared to last year's free scoring Alli is his main problem. He set the bar so high for himself last year that this year looks mediocre in comparison, but in fact it is still pretty impressive when you look at the numbers.

I would say that today's Alli is a little different than late 2017 Alli in that he seems to move the ball on quicker, making the simple pass when it is right. Earlier this season he was holding on to the ball too much. It looks like Poch has made this point to him and he has taken it on board.

" The heightened pressure around him in recent weeks, the hand‑wringing at the odd fragile moment is unsurprising. This is the dominant weather system of English football, a corrosive, endlessly sceptical revisionism applied to every talented player."

Love this:

"Someone may at some stage this season produce a better cushioned, full-speed, tip-of-the-toenail touch rushing in on goal with half an eye on the goalkeeper and the great barrelling rush of expectation behind them, a season there to be seized in that moment. But none spring to mind right now."

Calvert-Lewin did something quite similar when scoring England U21's opening goal against Ukraine the other day. Wasn't a long ball coming over the top but from his right flank but he still had to control it and score all in an instant and he did it almost as brilliantly.

Pretty good going.

The comeback I get with this is "he is a Striker not a midfielder" - to my response you don't watch our games and are basing that on one game last year against Chelsea.

Always think their odd comparisons as he plays a different role to them

Problem is there wasn’t a like for like in the “golden generation”

Ive always thought he was most comparible to Lampard. ANd not just because of his near identical late runs into the box.

Lampard did a very under rated job in midfield as well as attack, much like Alli. Lots of unsung work, then only gets recognised for scoring goals.

Lampard for me though was always one of the central pair rather than a 10 which is where Ali has (up to this season) played a lot for us

Ali is more like a David Platt or a Gus Poyet for his first two years

I can see that.

I just find, regardless of position, he often reminds me of Lampard.

Physically he is more Gerrard, the same frame and legs. Also has Gerrards little brick gene as well.

Technically he is superior to both, much more skillful.

But, in general, in the movement he has, in the job he does, both noticed and un noticed - Lampard is always the one that comes to mind.

he does a lot of work in the midfield and defense - looking at touch maps and heat maps for a lot of games he is very similar to Eriksen but on the left hand side. There are games where he plays the support striker but these are the exception not the rule.

A few months ago some utter drivel was posted in this thread about Dele. Allegedly Dele was believing the hype, had become too big for his boots blah blah. Some jokers on here were actually slagging him off for his non celebration of some of his goals. Methinks some people just need something to whinge about.

He should believe the hype. Look at the players he is being compared with, they were all works class

The issue that I have is two fold

Spurs fans not backing a young player
British press building him up to knock him down

I just love the way Potch has backed him in public (and in private) from day 1 no matter what criticism is thrown at him. Could you imagine if he was playing under Mourinho?
