*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Juventus ***

Sure but it is not really that accurate. Typically we are strong at the back and strong mentally I feel. It is just a dingdonghead thing to say when being magnanimous is the class thing to do.

Juventus won't win this cup, I'm certain of that.

I think it is accurate and it is clearly something that this very experienced player (and manager) think, as opposed to the fatso down the pub who just gobbles up what he hears Merson say on Saturday afternoons.

We are stronger mentally than we were. Especially in the league, in normal games, I am impressed with our mental strength. In the absolute crunch moments though, I'm still not convinced and I know that I am in the minority of this board when I say that, as Ive had a few discussions around this topic before.

As for defensively. Difficult to say we're good at the back to a player who's team have scored 4 goals against us from about 5 attacks. Its not always about quantity of shots that you concede.

Tbh, I don't care so much. Its better than the usual monotonous crap players spout after matches and let's be honest, we all found it hilarious when Deeney ripped into Arsenal a few months ago. Like Robspur said, I hope Poch and the players take it as motivation. I hope they go and win at the Bridge. I hope they take it and make sure we win the FA cup. I hope they go and make sure we finish in the top 4. And I hope they make sure that whatever European competition we happen to be in next season, we actually win a knockout tie or two.

At least we have more preparation time in between matches now, for the league.

You can't expect to finish chances lime we did tonight and go through.
Son had one fresh air swipe, a very fortunate miskuck goal and got into good positions to pass and chose the wrong option.
As did harry.

Indivually we had some poor displays, as a team I thought we were very good and were unlucky.

Very arrogant

They didn’t impress me

Some great last ditch defending but created so little and got away with every dirty trick

I do think if the pen had been awarded it would have made us play with more pace and energy which may have suited us
Why is it arrogant? We weren’t good defensively in the first leg, and everybody knows we have lost many big games which is a mental battle as much as anything. They’re a team that knows how to get the job done, it’s not all about football ability...

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. Sick to the stomach gutted.
We were SO much the better team. But against opposition like that we HAVE to take more of the chances we create - then we can survive any lapses in concentration.
I shall go to sleep tonight with Lamela's miss at the end on a loop in my head.
Hugely disappponting. We have Real Madrid memories as consolation but it's dificult to take right now.

I agree with @Hootnow. A couple of years ago we were all proud of the team for challenging for the title in an era dominated by lottery winners like Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project, not to mention United. At some point, we have to win something and not be content with just getting to the last 16 or the semis of a major tournament. Not saying I expected us to just rock up tonight and win, far from it. But I’m still annoyed at how we contrived to lose a tie that we dominated for about 140 minutes of.

The FA cup was always the more realistic competition that we could win and is still up for grabs. I’m not expecting to win it but I for one won’t be proud to get to yet another semi final only to lose again.

But you know, I find some solace in the fact that this Juventus team simply can't be this lucky throughout the tournament. They're cynical and a relatively good side, but no way will they win this. City or Barcelona will tear them to absolute pieces.

I just had a look at the highlights (painful). You can go on about defensive nous and wily old Italians, and that is true to a point, but the bottom line is that with the chances we had the game should have been well over. We are not clinical enough and that was the difference between going through and not.

Gutted.

Spot on.

Arrogant as they were the inferior side for 170 minutes of the tie

It’s cup football and one goal can be enough as we know but that call out is poor IMO

I just don’t know people can say we are strong mentally. Fully agree we have improved in this area but how anyone can come to the conclusion that we are strong mentally even though we haven’t won anything in a decade baffles me.

Sorry I don't buy that. Maybe against the very best sides we come up little short but we are certainly not a mental fragile team anymore, nor a defensively poor one. That is just inaccurate IMO.

Some poor finishing from us is the only reason we are not going through, simple as that IMO. If Kane's header had sneaked over the line in the 90th minute instead of bouncing on it would Juventus be mentally weak and poor defensively? Of course not. It is just small margins at this level that make the difference so I don't agree with him on this. It's just a soundbite for the media.

I don’t disagree about Chiellini but sadly the growing narrative is that we are unable to win the big games that lead to trophies. Any psychological tricks that can shift the small margins in our favour should be welcomed.

Allegri's use of two subs within a few minutes of each other as he changed shape caused just enough confusion, that psychological trick for a brief time, that allowed them to exploit the uncertainty and score twice.
I don't think there's blame to go to Poch for not reacting quick enough to those two changes, but maybe for not making changes of our own fast enough.

Shattered.. Absolutely shattered. But I'm still proud, we went toe to toe with European giants and really deserved to go through. Six or so minutes of madness over 180. Sigh. Cest la vie.

Let's go on and give the FA cup a real crack.

Hard to take tonight, we had more than enough chances in the first half to finish the tie and we got found out in a five minute spell of madness. We fell apart and were punished. Simple as that. A long way to go but proud of the effort we’ve shown during the CL this season. Wembley was jammed tonight, really thought we’d do it in the home away from home but not to be. Let’s get top 4 wrapped up and bring on September when we have another crack at Europe’s elite!

Heartbreaking to lose like that, the major difference is....brains
By brains do you mean experience of these type of games? Our squad and coaching staff have, to me, shown plenty of 'brains' to get us to 3rd and 2nd place finishes above teams with far higher budgets than us. They have also had us playing scintillating football AND (for the most part) adjusted to Wemberly.

If it was deliberate, the tactic of two subs separated by around a minute was genius. I hope to see Poch do that soon.

Agreed, they haven’t a hope. For all their cleverness tonight, a City or Barca will overwhelm them like we did for 80 mins in Turin and not give them something to hold on to. Buffon also looks like a poor man’s Bobby Mimms.

Tonight was the last sting of a dying wasp.

I don’t believe Poch was to blame. He had his best team out there and he subbed Dier for Lamela. I am no tactical expert but I am not sure who should have been replaced. Our leading scorers and game changers were on the pitch. To bring on Moura who do you take off? While it was 2-1 we were still in the tie so to take off a defender or Dembele off for another offensive player may have cost us another away goal which is worth double of course.. We were sucker punched by a combination of poor chance conversion and lack of concentration at the back.
