Posted this the other day, so far so good (only one round of games so hardly inspired!)

I think the nature of the weekend is massive.

Liverpool go ahead again winning against Bournemouth. All media narrative is about how Liverpool are great again after a shaky period. Even MOTD etc are bigging them up.

Which is simply wrong, even on the same MOTD highlights used to illustrate how amazing Liverpool are it was obvious Bournemouth made it easy for them.

So, easy win, unfairly inflated ego, Liverpool back on track...

    ...Then Sunday.

Thoroughly depleted Spurs put 3 past Leicester and bring the gap to 3rd back to 5 points. Obviously a nice gap, but the sort of distance that has you looking over your shoulder a bit.

And then City do that to Chelsea.

Firstly, Chelsea will have been a game Liverpool would have been looking to City to potentially drop points in. They didnt.

Secondly, they took such an emphatic win, Liverpool must KNOW City arent feeling the pressure. Or, if they are, they are revelling in it.

I would say, at this point - Liverpools collective Donald Trump will be a quiver.

Man Utd away next. I actually think Utd will open up and attack, and thatll suit Liverpool, but I think its fair to say theres every chance they will drop points here.

If they lose, if that game advantage evaporates, then I think things will only go one way.

And the question becomes, will Liverpool finish 2nd or 3rd?

A draw against United would be a mental blow despite them being on form, with the Everton game up shortly after.

They arent on form, thats the point. The win against Bournemouth was a given, not them over coming adversity. Against West Ham prior they were decidedly poor, as against Leicester and Palace (which they also won).

All during this time City have been reeling them in, and genuinely finding form.

Which is why I think the pressure is really ramping up.

I think around the time of the derby is key, if things go as I suspect they will, it will be the first game they HAVE to win to keep pace with City.

If we beat them and City away, I think there'd be some brown trousers in the North West.

There'll be some brown trousers 'round my way too. Not sure I could handle the hope and expectation that'd bring...

Big if, but it would be glorious.

I think the brown trousers, general confusion and "WTF do we do now?!" on Sky sports would top it though to be honest!

I'm backing it in, I don't know why I just feel like we're building to peak at the right time. Even if it doesn't amount to the ultimate success, the scare achieved and general media panic would be so worth it.

Am just reading the Spurs thread on RAWK and they're discussing the game the other night. To be fair, some of them are giving us our dues but there are some saying it calls into question the quality of the German League.

What I wouldn't give to see Bayern stuff the Dippers next week just for the mental gymnastics some of those fudgers would have to do to rationalise their current logic.

Yep - read those posts too! the mental gymnastic would indeed be EPIC if Liverpool lost, especially if at Anfield!
