We need movement and an Eriksen to find the pass. (as mentioned in a previous post, watch how Emirates Marketing Project break down the packed defence)

Who excels against teams that sit back?
Very few teams do and rely on a bit to brilliance and some forced luck to get results
Arsenal drew 0-0 at home to Burnley as they couldn’t force the mistake
City drew yesterday against West Ham who played the low block
Very few teams smash these sides

Probably regurgitating thoughts already shared - but not gonna go through 27 pages!

    1. I think the result was more comfortable than it felt during the game. We defended the final third really well and created the far better chances in the second half.
    2. When we've smashed Burnley (last 2 seasons) we've scored inside the first 5 minutes and been 3 up by half-time. We played with great intensity and purpose at the start of the game yesterday but having not scored in first 15 it was always going to be difficult and to rely on a bit of luck.
    3. By law that's a penalty all day - I still think it's a bad interpretation of what should or shouldn't be a handball but it is a penalty.
    4. Burnley timewasting in first half produced the ironic outcome of us being awarded a penalty in the 4th minute of added time. Had they not been fudging about since kick off it would have been 2 minutes and they'd have gone in 0-0.

Like you've said recently G, another goal where the timing was good.
The final 15 mins of that first half the crowd and Conte were starting to show some edginess.

To walk off 1-0 up was a bonus

Don't know if this has been mentioned but VAR took forever to give the pen. I was in the queue for a drink and the delay seemed interminable. The relief when it was given...I thought we would kill them off properly in the second half, but our shots were straight at Pope..........

I underestimated how tired our team were from Thursday. They looked a bit leggy but still controlled the game pretty well coming into the end of it. I was bricking it but aside from the one off the post early in the second half, there was little actual danger. We had the chances in that second half like you say. There was a bit of steel, grit and nous there.

One other point. I had to laugh at Hugo being carded for time wasting when he actually didn't take that long. Pope spent the entire first half doing it and doing it a lot worse than Hugo did. In fact, Pope was still taking longer over kick outs at the beginning of the second half than Hugo did when he got booked.

I think Hugo got booked because he ignored the ref's signal to 'get on with it' (albeit as you say he didn't take a huge amount of time in comparison to Pope) and instead of kicking the ball out, he moved it sideways so it was still in his possession. With Pope, he took as long as he possibly could each time but generally took the kick once the ref signalled to stop time wasting. I would love to see a referee book a player much earlier, especially when the time wasting starts so early. At least with Hugo it was getting towards the end of the game.

    7. Other... Understanding / trust

When one guy runs with the ball at Emirates Marketing Project, pool, cheatski and le arse, you see others running into different positions to give options. Understanding what the guy with the ball will do and trusting that he can do it, it's a leap of faith to sacrifice that effort.

Son and Kane have a great understanding and trust each other, its apparent. You can see the same happening with our whole right side... Romero, Royal, Kulu, Doherty and sometimes Bentancur in support.

However its not there in the rest of the pitch. Without understanding and trust across the team, the one with the ball is the only one taking risks. So playing it safe is the logical course of action. Until a hero comes along.

Don't know if you've seen the replay, but there seemed to even be a slight delay between the ref gesturing the VAR square in the air and actually pointing to the spot. Almost like he had to take one last "should I really" thought about it.

Honestly I think it's a nonsense penalty, but the rules are nonsensical so good to see it go our way.

Only nonsense, or soft, because the ball wasnt heading to any of our players. If Kane or Son were standing in the direction were the ball was heading, then suddenly it wouldnt look so soft. Looked at that way, I 'm not sure that positioningof other players should decide penalties or not

VAR was checking to see if Son was offside when he received the ball back from the corner before putting in the cross. Hence the delay.

As soon as you saw a check for offside, you knew they thought it was a pen.

I can understand how Shearer thinks it's not hand ball as hes working on the principle that we did not get a penalty in our semi final against Saudi Sportswashing Outpost when their 6'4" Greek CB jumped in the air and knocked the ball away over his head with his arm, perfectly natural.

I assume Barnes won’t be moaning about a VAR “mistake” tonight.
