So you think AVB was a better manager than Redknapp then?

The expanding gap between the top 6/7 and the rest is either an issue, or our managers keep getting better and better with every appointment (as the ppg average has increased with every one)

The difference being Tim Krul playing the game of his life and Tim Krul gifting us several goals.

That was not the main reason tbf.

Pardew completely outsmarted AVB that game. Did you see the first 25 mins? they blitzed us and created three 1 on 1 chances due to ball over top tactic to Remy (due to our high back line). It was obvious what they were trying from the start but we did nothing to counter it until going 1 down. Then of course there's always the risk the opposition goalkeeper plays a blinder.

Sherwood played 4-3-3 that game and set the team out perfectly.

You could also argue that Sherwood benefitted from the nee signings being more settled in the 2nd half of the season. I'd say Chadli and Eriksen in particular were way better after Christmas.

It's actually we have gotten better, earn more money (income and sales), upgrade players and each manager has a better SQUAD (yes some WC players come and go) to work with.

Everyone ignores that (or at least the rabid defenders of Sherwood)

Levy has got a big 'selling' job now for a new manager. His track record to prospects will look like a rocky road. It is.

I used to think this but every club in the premier league, bar maybe Arsenal and to an extent Everton, are just as unstable as Spurs in terms of managerial postion. European football, good squad of players, new stadium on the horizon. Would be a tempting offer to most coaches I'd imagine.

Manager's are more than adequately compensated for those rocks though. You sell potential and it's up to them to realise it or it's goodbye.

Gary Lineker has hit out at Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for his decision to sack manager Tim Sherwood just six months into an 18-month contract with the north London club.

The former Spurs striker took to Twitter to air his displeasure at the way Sherwood has been treated by Levy while suggesting 'those that run the club' often get away without any blame.

Lineker tweeted: 'It's always those that run the team, never those that run the club that are to blame!'

The BBC presenter was also quick to sing Sherwood's praises as Lineker claimed the now former Spurs boss is 'bombastic and refreshingly different'.

As the news of Sherwood's sacking hit the headlines, Sherwood wrote: 'Tim Sherwood has been sacked by Spurs. He's opinionated, bombastic and refreshingly different. Hope to see him in charge of a PL club soon.'

Sherwood had been handed an 18-month contract after Spurs sacked Andre Villas-Boas in December, but Levy has exercised a break clause to end the 45-year-old's time in north London

Was that due to being more settled or playing in a role for Sherwood that was different to the one AVB asked them to do?

If it was as simple as 'knock a ball over the top because of the high line and our pacy striker would get it' we wouldn't have won any games at all.

If you want. But that happened to both managers. But the beginning of the season saw us get at least 3 fortuitous penalties which resulted in 9 points for AVB.

Except not every team has a pacy striker and some will naturally adopt a cautious approach allowing us to dominate possession more. We also as I have mentioned won games at Palace, Swansea and Hull with fortuitous penalties.

Last season (well, season before now technically ;)) he didn't get one. Not even the blindingly obvious. Not one pen. And we missed CL by one point despite having our best ever points haul…makes you think eh? What could've been and all that…

It's pretty impossible to say what would happen in some alternate past if you change only minor incidents. What makes you so sure you can judge what would have happened by changing major ones?
