You advocate hateful attitudes towards certain religious groups, have you educated your children to think that this is acceptable? Because if you have I hope you can see the reeking hypocrisy of it all..

I think you are missing the point. If you take offence then of course it matters and it's gone too far.

This is a very difficult topic and one that people can easily be flippant about especially if they have not been a victim of pernicious racism. Imagine walking down the street and being spat on for no good reason other than they don't like your colour or religion. Imagine being told to f off back to your own country especially when you were born here and this is your home. Imagine your kids coming home wishing they could change their skin colour, their national origins or religion because kids have been laughing at them for it. There is no banter here, no jokes. it makes people sensitive and scared so they see issues that others might not. Cut them some slack.

In the main it's not just the words themselves but the way those words are said and how the group they are directed at feel about their identity. Most Scots I know feel ok about a bit of banter around Highland kisses and being tight fisted. Most Irish however get uptight if you tell bomber jokes for obvious reasons and Muslims are same if you make reference to terrorists. I suspect a Scot would be ok with "a bit of banter" but if he was spat on in the streets, looked over for jobs and consistently harassed for being Scottish, he would be a lot more sensitive to the "banter."

There is so much hatred out there between ethnic and religious groups I just think @scaramanga should take more care with his words.

@scaramanga. I sit near a Muslim lady at work. She is very nice. She bought her baby daughter to work recently.
Are they both 'pigfudgers'? Or is that reserved for Muslims that refuse to shake the hands of Israeli footballers?

No that type of insult is still directed towards any Arab.

I have. His (supposedly secular) school taught him some nonsense about Jesus and he went back in the next day telling his teacher that those stories were all made up, just like Star Wars but rubbish.

I would refer to them as gullible fools at best, plain stupid on most occasions. If they show their religion via hatred of an ethnic group then they earn the title of pigfudgers.

I've heard that in relation to goats, never pigs. Pig only world because of they're disliked so much by Muslims.

Only when his career was in the balance over it. Refused when he thought he could get away with it.

Why should a person's choice of religion be an issue? The fact that a person chooses to believe in GHod does not mean their beliefs will necessarily impact on you or anybody else in a negative sense. I have no time for fundamentalists, but because a person has their faith as the guiding principle in their life I see that as not being a problem as long as they are not thrusting their beliefs down your throat.

You may scoff at them and as you call it their imaginary friend, but my attitude is live and let live. I have learnt that some people use their religion to further their own agenda by what ever means necessary, but not everyone is like that.

I know all about religious bigotry, its a sad fact of life in this part of the world and one of the reasons I chose to follow spurs.
It's also why I deplore bigotry in all forms and I have every sympathy for (and I'm sorry if I use the wrong words here) non whites who because they are physically different are a much more identifiable target.
I've been attacked in the street with bottle because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time because a drunk idiot made an assumption about my religion, I can only imagine what it's like for others who are such an obvious target.

It's often said ridicule is a good way to deal with this, I sort of agree but I think scara takes it too far and becomes quite antagonistic, which defeats the purpose.

Trust me, I take a lot of care with my words. I am very precise with what I say, and it's always precisely what I mean.

I can't believe this thread is still active!

    For fudges sake people

We are all Tottenham Hotspur fans

Is it too much to ask that we don't argue about whether it's right or wrong to call someone a pigfudger or a bomber

    Its not right....simple

Maybe there's some edl forum where you can all banter about that together, safe in your circle of generalizing bigots

But here, let's chat about Spurs, and non-incendiary topics like films, tv, other sports etc

I don't think there's going to be a winner of this disagreement. It was a simple request by @StephenH to tone down the crude remarks

Is that something that we can agree to?

Racists don't differentiate Muslim Arabs and non Muslim Arabs, that's the point, for them they are the same (Muslim terrorists) there isn't the distinction you are making.

Difficult to tell. I'm not Muslim. I'm not Arab. I don't believe they had a discussion beforehand on whether they would choose to attack me over my skin colour/ancestral origin or supposed religion.

Fair enough, but I think it is unwise to purposely use inflammatory language like you do on such a sensitive topic.
