I think there were always 'grey areas' where they might need seating for certain groups, interests, sponsors, disabled, TV crew, TV camera positions, vomitories, press, Koreans, Elvis Impersonators, whatever it is... and then they can release these seats to the general public, appearing as "new" seats.

Well I can understand finding a couple of hundred more, but 2k?? The main stand at my local teams stadium seats 2k! It's an awful lot of seats!

    Ottawa, actually.
Mate, based on your experience, what's your guess on the max amount of seats that we can squeeze into the existing design? We're at 62,850, so maybe 63,000? 64,000?

Not much point to that right now, but I've always been interested in how future proof the place is, and how high the capacity can go in hopefully better times in the future. I understand a major revision to the design would be wholly uneconomical given the fact that the entire roof will apparently need to be replaced as part of any redesign, being some sort of tensioned-in thing.

But how big can the current capacity get, d'you think?

IMO nothing much more in the normal seats unless they reduce the width like arsenal have talked about (trust me it’s an idea the have planned)
And no increase with safe standing
Only area I can see is changes to the corporate seating arrangements but again from what I know of that it’s mainly restaurant type rather than Box seating
I do know they did hold box a number of seats due to cap issues on planning (access and egress) and that was in their planning app
It’s odd but clubs do it
They also rehab disabled areas too based in demand and they take up per head a disproportionate space for the return, but you should never discriminate

While the current design provides no additional attendance from the safe standing with the rows and seat sizes being pretty similar to the rest of the South Stand, it would probably be reasonably cheap and easy to change this in future. Many safe standing areas in Germany split each row into two, have a slight step up for the rear half of that row and position the rail seats so that the middle of the seat behind is in line with the gap between the two seats in front so that the person behind is looking between the heads of the two people in front. I don't think we could quite split every row into two but the lower portion of the South stand could certainly be converted in this way by making three slightly banked rows for every two current rows, increasing the safe standing capacity by around 50% in the South stand.

I think the above would happen reasonably quickly after the authorities allow standing. We couldn't push our luck when building that capability, but once standing is allowed we can then start to try to push our luck. That sort of change could easily be completed in a single off season as well.

It is also not beyond the realms of possibility to do a few other things to increase capacity (although these would be more challenging from a financial and engineering point of view)

    1. Start to use the Sky Lounge as a place where matches can be viewed from (either from within the sky lounge, or even by suspending a few rows of seats out in front of it)
    2. Build another Sky Lounge type setup at the South stand end (again either for viewing from within or with some rows of seats suspended.

Of course those options might not be for those who don't like heights (and I think there is a bit of movement up there in the wind as well).

Considering the current panic on covid I doubt that close proximities like standing will be happening anytime soon, but the logic is right

Yeah - we're probably a year or two away from the legislation coming in to allow standing again anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club had an initial capacity that they had to meet as part of building regs (or whatever) and were told upon proving traffic flow (and other things) it would be able to increase X% - which was allowed for in the design.

I think it may setlle in the 65k region in a couple of years, without taking in any safe standing alterations that may or may not come in to play.

Amazon are launching an official Spurs branch store. Maybe stadium sponsored next?
