You can see why Sherwood is unhappy about us spending big money on the likes of Capoue and Paulinho when we have Bentaleb and Carroll coming through the ranks. The kid was a star out there today.

Knew he had talent. Didn't realise he was as good as he was though. Much better passing ability than Dembele, not as strong on the ball then again not many are.

He had absolutely no fear out there in a huge game on his debut. Very vocal, saw him directing others on the pitch at times.

From what I saw he looked like a slighter version of Dembele, ie can win the ball, good with the ball, strong etc Is that about right or is he a different type of CM?

I don't especially rate Dembele, so would be interested to see Bentaleb in that ballplaying role in a proper 3 man CM.

I doubt he's as good defensively as Dembele, but he moves the ball so much better/quicker/smarter.

Liked when he came on, the commentator didn't have a clue who he was..... "and on comes the young man..... erm......not many fans will know who he is" then the name comes on the screen!

Has impressed when I've seen him play in the U21s. Always a question mark on whether they'll make the step up, but he looked at home today.
Have to ask the question why he's not played more already this season, league cup, Europa League etc.

Everybody take a deep breath, it was a nice cameo.. But let's not go crazy.

He'll need time to ease into things, plus it won't take long for our fans to groan when he makes a few mistakes and ruin his confidence anyway..

Can play and move with the ball. Capoue cant do that.

    Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

Cool it, cool it. 30 minutes against a strangely disjointed Southampton side does not the new Hoddle make.

He had a decent game, looks reasonably assured in possession and tracks opposition runs well. He needs to bulk up a bit, and though we got away with it today, it's a bit unfair playing him in a lightweight midfield comprised of Eriksen, himself, Sigurdsson and Chadli (any goals scored by an opposition midfielder will inevitably be blamed on him to some extent). Next game, if Tim decides to go 4-4-2 again, then by all means put Bentaleb on in central midfield if necessary, but move Eriksen to the left and get someone more defensively minded on to partner him.

    Still, promising signs, all told.

huh? He looked huge. And he did really well, how is that unfair? Why does he need a defensive partner, he is defensive?

Of course we shouldn't be blown away but I think he proved today that he can play at this level. It was a match with high tempo and he played 2 against 3 in central midfield and performed well.

With the current injury situation and dip of form from first team regulars in mind, this couldn't have come at a better time. Hope we'll see more sub appearances from him in the upcoming fixtures.

    Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

It was interesting wasn't it, TS made Sigg and Lamela come way in field to make it our 4 against their 3 at times... but then they would switch it wide and we'd think "woah, where is our width" or we would try to play it wide and there was nobody there. Quite a disjointed display which looked better and better but I'm not sure if that was down to us or them. I felt like a better team like l'A.rse would have taken us to the cleaners, but it was a joy to watch some football for a change, and a happy Xmas present for us all

Of course we shouldnt get carried away but he and Carroll should have been getting their chances.
