It’s getting a bit ‘Football is going fudging stupid - next step will be different versions of league titles so all the super clubs can hold a version at the same time like boxing. Then there will be an interim World Cup and a special world club championship held in America that only American teams can enter. Footballer of the year will be decided by Instagram followers and social media likes and there will also be a lavish award ceremony for fantasy footballer of the year.

Should have won this a couple seasons ago.
Feels like an award for longevity, not football has had a poorer season by his high standard.
