Interesting. Not sure why. With Gazza do we really need another experienced goalkeeper??

I really want to be positive about him as he is one of ours now, but just seeing that he’s rolled his sleeve up to show those ridiculous tacotoos has stopped me in my tracks...

If you can’t spend c30k a week on a player you hope never plays, you cannot be considered a big club...

I guess it is possible that Hart is seen as superior backup to Gazza, in terms of volume of first team and international experience, trophy winning experience plus bolstering the HG quota. He does seem over qualified to be third choice so perhaps Gazza is on his way and Mourinho has asked for more experienced players as part of the group?

My bad it’s a t shirt. Still don’t understand the tacots though, I thought only a scouser would feel the need to permanently ink a black armband...

My thought is it means getting rid of Gazza, hart #2 with an U21 as 3rd. Helps with HG issue and backup keeper I guess is the position you least want to waste a foreign spot on

Number of reasons it makes sense

Gazza is useless - is hart better? Won’t know till tested - but can’t be much worse

    HG numbers -

I imagine will help youth keepers more than Gazza- purely because of age and history

Gazza can be sold for cash

let’s assume he’s gunna be playing in Europa league with younger players - an older head in squad

Agreed, and its conceivable that Gazzaniga might want to be first choice somewhere given that he's now 28. How long is he happy just sitting on the bench at Spurs?

Personally I don't rate Gazzaniga at all. Hart at least has experience, though a dodgy last few years.

I don't see that we would be weaker with Hart as back-up keeper rather than Gazzaniga and better off from a home grown perspective. In this respect, its notable that we're not being linked with many English players at all and equally whist we're cash strapped, we're likely to shop abroad as foreign players are generally cheaper

    Is Gazza actually useless?
I know he had a few bad games last season (certainly not the only one....) and that does of course mean you’re useless. But is he?

I know it’s a different lifetime, but I always thought the consensus the season before when he came in, was that he was good. there was even debate about him potentially succeeding Hugo.

    @harr1984

What's strange is that you were questioning why there's a lot of fuss over Hart, a player the majority of people will know of and have an opinion on, compared to an "unkown" as you put it, who most people won't know about or have an opinion. Does it really need explaining why that is the case?

If you disagree on his ability that's your own opinion but the above point is pretty straight forward.

Anyway he's here now so fingers crossed Hugo never picks up an injury or a suspension.

Gazza is ok and I thought he looked solid in his rare appearances. Lloris making a few errors and having limited kicking ability led to a few calling for a change, then the flapinjury against Brighton gave him his chance for a run of games to prove a solid keeper is best.
Unfortunately through the extended game time and increase in pressure he proved be susceptible to long range shots and didn’t gather similar cult status to Dier and Lamela for attempting to kill a Chelsea player.
Then Vorm won a one on one game of Rock Paper Scissors to play the FA Cup game and Gazza’s approval rating quickly went back up again.
In short and not unlike other players before him, the less he plays the better he gets..

A guy with a great trophy haul joins the club as a back up to the back up and he costs us nothing in fee and a small sum in wages
Seem to me to be a great deal
