I wouldn’t bet on Jose Mourinho letting Tanganga come off the bench - for the remainder or the season...

Mourinho never subs more than 2-3 players per game

I like him, but he’s played what, ten games?

That’s not a breakthrough season and 15k a week seems generous as it is imo.

I bet it is more to do with if he sees himself getting game time.

Maybe, that’s up to him though, you want to play, be better than the other options.

Disagree HOWEVER it is very easy to compromise; we just put a "per game" clause i.e. £8k to train and £12k per game or whatever

Never, ever quote or believe anything written by Charlie Eccleshare. He's the gooner's gooner. Just one step removed from being the pseudo-respectable guy on Arse Fan Comedy TV. The brickhousery on Spurs from him while at the Telegraph should have made him an automatic no-go for the Spurs beat.

Probably lowered his wage demands to 'begging for a real job' levels.

    Ottawa, actually.
Interesting that Tanganga, Skipp and Dier all look to have signed 4 year contracts.

Previously, we'd give out 5-6 year contracts like candy.

I wonder if it's a move toward proactive squad management on our part - shorter contracts, easier to ship if the investment doesn't turn out the way the club hopes. On the other hand, it does reduce our leverage.

    Very good news.
For Dier i might agree with you.

For Tanganga and Skipp I'm not so sure. They're still very young, haven't played that much and won't be on massive wages. Unless they somehow completely collapse in form or because of injury they should be pretty easy to move on as they will still be youngish, home grown, have potential, and on wages I imagine even most Championship clubs could cover.

Generally clubs will benefit from longer contracts with talented youngsters such as them. Over 4 years doesn't matter much though, if they make it with our first team they'll demand, deserve and get a pay rise anyway and thus a new deal.

What I found more of a change was the length of contract Alderweireld got. In the other direction of course. But 3.5 year contracts for someone 30+ is rare in general and for us.

Levy really shouldn't be so tight when its 10k to 20k a week, its just not worth the risk of losing young talent like Tanganga. He's blatantly a better right back than Aurier.

Shouldn't be so tight? How much more should he be willing to pay?

It adds up. We have several players in this situation more or less constantly, that adds up.

Levy has shown that if the player improves, gets regular first team football, the wages will increase too. With that the contract gets extended.
