    8.2 then

Actually, all this got me thinking. Which Premier League strikers would I rate as the true world class 10/10's? Kane and Aguero I've said, and that's it from the current crop. But who else? Off the top of my head:

10/10: Kane, Aguero, Henry, Shearer, van Persie?, Drogba?, Bergkamp?
9/10: Sheringham, Vardy, Fowler, Rooney, Cole, Owen, Wright?
8/10: Jesus, Defoe, Keane, Ferdinand, many many others

Having just checked out the poor performance of my Premier League FFL team (not a good week for Captain Kane!), I thought I'd look up their striker values:

Aubameyang 11.6 (listed as a midfielder)
    Kane 11.0
    Agüero 10.3
    Vardy 10.2

    Werner 9.5
Son 9.5 (listed as a midfielder)
    Jesus 9.3
    Firmino 9.2

    Martial 8.7
    Jiménez 8.4
    Lacazette 8.3
    Ings 8.3
    Cavani 8.0

    Calvert-Lewin 7.8
    Richarlison 7.8
    Abraham 7.2
    Vinicius 7.0

    Giroud 6.7
    Wilson 6.5
    Maupay 6.4
    Wood 6.2
    Ighalo 6.2
    Antonio 6.2
    Watkins 6.1
    Bamford 6.1
    Haller 6.1
    Wesley 6.0
    Barnes 6.0
    Tosun 6.0

    Adams 5.9
    Rodriguez 5.8
    Batshuayi 5.8
    Ayew 5.7
    Mitrovic 5.7
    Rodrigo 5.7

I've only included a handful of the players below £6M. Obviously, the FFL values are inflated for players at better clubs -- they'll get more possession (sometimes!), better service, and score more goals. Even if you were to take £0.5M from the value of any Big 6 players, I think it largely illustrates my thoughts.

Good point! In the 9/10 bracket for me, possibly even 8 given that he was never absolutely prolific...but then, neither was Bergkamp and I rate him very highly.

Cunning the way Carragher claims to admire how streetwise Kane is before attempting to bias the viewer against him prior to showing the foul.

The underlying message is, it doesn't matter that he's been fouled in the first place, that's perfectly alright, What wrong, we are told, is that Harry is at fault for drawing the ref's attention to it. So he's the real villain of the piece. Defenders must be allowed to carry on fouling him every time he wins possession and it's him who's in the wromg for wanting a fk out of it.

This nasty piece by Carragher is calculated to wind up opposition fans and turn up the hate for England's talisman striker.

Cleverly done but oh how it stinks.

Wow, I interpreted it a completely different way.

Be boring if we all thought the same.

You believe Carragher's capable of that level of thought?

I'm fairly sure that most of his very limited brain function is focused on him not bricking himself.

I'm pretty sure I attempted this before on this thread...

Is there anyone out there apart from Kane himself that reckons he should be on free kicks? It was a bit of a joke a while ago now it's just taking the tinkle.

I think he's a great striker of the ball, corners, pelanties, free kicks but I agree he's not the sole option for ones around the box. When you look at how dangerous Ward-Prowse is from deadballs it really is an aspect where we could improve. Surely someone has good technique in training from <25 yards out. Son and Lamela take our best corners IMO, maybe they would be worth giving a run of chances to.

He certainly doesn’t make a good case for himself as the main free kick taker the way he constantly blasts them over/wide.

It’s that stupid fudging knuckleball technique that’s been fashionable for the last few years - such a small percentage actually test the keeper. Look at Ward-Prowse - old skool still the most effective for me.

I've often wondered if dead ball skill is due to certain players figuring out the particular characteristics of the various balls we've seen used over the years and adapting their free kicking techniques to suit. Clearly something worked out on the training ground.
