FIFA: Destroying Football Since 1904

@SportingIntel:

Here is the first extract from whistleblower @BonitaMersiades's book about those infamous 2018-2022 bids. Contains Blatter, Bin Hammam, bungs, Barack (Obama) and Beckenbauer.

Can you textify it please?

Thanks.

Edit - just spotted the link.

Its unreal it really is. The Qataris were in on this, they should be stripped
They're all in on it.
Emirs, Princes, Kings, Heads of State, The President of the USA, celebrities... everyone has their dirty hands in the filth pot, right up to the elbow.

The Confederations Cup is no more due to a lack of interest from sponsors. Surprise, surprise, FIFA love money. Instead we will get a revamped (ie. bloated) Club World Cup in the summer every four years starting in 2021.

Be honest the Confederations Cup was always going that way. No shock.

expanded club World Cup could be really good, if they weed out the lesser teams, make it the best of SA and Europe

The Confederations Cup was always a joke tournament, more a world cup test event, but held in a good time slot. The Intercontinental Cup and Club World Club were charity shield/supercup level events held at a bad time and more of a nuisance than a serious trophy.

A world cup for clubs in the summer could be far more interesting. 2021 is an off year from the World Cup, European Championships and Copa America. Given the Copa America seems to be moving to even years (2024 is the next after 2019) this opens the way for the club tournament to be every two years. Four years is too long for the club cycle as clubs change players too often.

With every two years you could probably get most of the semi-finalists of the Champions League and Copa Libertadores over the two years and top it up to 16 teams from the other federations.

I like it, would give us a summer tournament every year too

IF they weed is the billion dollar question.

Why some keep banging on about the governing bodies trying maximise income is beyond me.
It how all sport today and especially football survives and prospers.

Champions League

2018: Real, Bayern, Roma, Liverpool
2017: Real, Juventus, Atletico, Monaco
2016: Real, Atletico, Bayern, City
2015: Barcelona, Juventus, Real, Bayern
2014: Real, Atletico, Bayern, Chelsea

Over four years (2014-18) we have four different finalists. Over two years we have 7, 6, 6 and 7 semi-finalists. I thought there would be more overlap in the latter. Could 6-7 European teams be included in a 16 team tournament? On quality, yes; on TV money, yes; on FIFA politics, no. Which wins, money or politics?

Copa Libertadores

2017: Gremio, Lanus, Barcelona, River Plate
2016: Atlético Nacional, Indepentiente, Sao Paulo, Boca Juniors
2015: River Plate, UANL, Guarani, Internacional
2014: San Lorenzo, Club Nacional, Bolivar, Defensor Sporting

Far less overlap, with only River Plate makes the semi-finals twice in four years. So four or eight teams are easy to select.

Does anyone watch the world club cup? I know its a big thing for the SA and the European team in it but other than that its a bit of a joke isn't it? Extending it wont make it less of a joke, its getting more and more irrelevant as the European teams keep getting richer (comparatively). This is also why there is so much more variation in the Copa Lib as any team who wins it has all their good players purchased by European clubs.

The extended WC is likely to give more teams to Africa / Asia rather than Europe as we are overrepresented (based upon number of countries in the region) already. There had been a push to give some of ours to other federations and this is a compromise. I think open qualifications are the way forwards anyway as long as we can exclude Australia & New Zeeland (wont miss them).

To be honest I have no idea what the Confederations Cup is/was

And the World Club Cup thingy is just rubbish, such a non-event... the Champions League winner vs the South America winner... whoopee doo
