The nomadic neighbour unfortunately. I can’t see us finishing above them right now unless the players out really hit their team hard and they are forced to play matches. They are further down the road in their transition. I wish it wasn’t true but watching our performances, we have a long way to go to find the needed consistency and performances to get top 4.

That's a load of guano, Guepo.

Let's look at the two clubs since Conte took over at the end of October. In league play, we are unbeaten - 5W, 3D, 0L. 8 played, 18 points. Them'uns are 5W, 0D, 4L. 9 played, 15 points.

In context, we've had some relatively easy games against lower level opposition (Norwich, Leeds, Southampton, Watford, Everton), but Arsenal have had similar opposition too. Their losses feature a 4-0 spanking from Liverpool, 2-0 to Everton, 3-2 to MancU and 2-1 to a semi-motivated Manc City. We've beaten City and drawn Liverpool and Everton(away). I'll take our record in this time frame over theirs.

In Cup play, we beat West Ham, got steamed by Chelsea. They've given a gelded Liverpool a goalless draw and been punted from the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest. Call it square on that front.

We may not be the prettiest team, but there's real talent here and we're moving along nicely. Build from the back is the old maxim about creating a good team. We're replenishing with useful, promising new additions in Royal and Romero. Dier and Sanchez are rebounding quite nicely under Conte (Sanchez still only 25, young for a defender, Dier just 28 - hitting his prime). Davis is still looking very useful at LCB where his weaknesses are minimized. Reguilon at LB/LWB looks the business for years to come and Sessegnon has had a promising re-introduction to the team.

In midfield, we're settled at DM with both Hojbjerg and Skipp. Winks is showing more of his old self these days. Moura has a small block turbo for a motor and looks solid for at least two more seasons. Attack wise, we've got Son signed long-term and he does it all. We could definitely do with Lo Celso stepping up as a threat or creative playmaker. It really is now or never for him with a gap needing filled now that Ndombele has been excommunicated. Sad to see Dele not fulfilling the immense potential shown in earlier seasons. Looking ahead, Sarr comes in next season so there's some potential there for creative attacking play.

And Kane still posing the clinical threat up front.

I can't be arsed to do a detailed breakdown for the Popguns. Their backline is hardly impregnable. Their midfield is patchy and their forwards are either heading for the exits or turning into the sort of expensive millstones Ozil was. You ride that penny farthing if you want to. But I'm content that, in this moment under Conte's guidance, we're seeing enough of what Spurs can do moving forward that there's no reason to be so pessimistic.

This «Spurs is too insignificant a club to be associated with Antonio Conte and he might walk at any time» narrative really tinkles me off. The questions he got in that last press conference were ALL about if is unhappy and insinuations as to what the consequence of that might be.

Not a single question about the actual football on offer and what he might be trying to build long term.

It’s all the «Conte is the messiah, Levy is fudging you over» story ad nauseam. Quick fix short-termism designed to make us all miserable.

As Conte himself might have put it: Man the fudge up.

    Rant over.

Conte's got us to a point where we can go above Chelsea if we do well against them and take advantage of our games in hand.
Had he been given the chance to play Arsenal, I think most would even grudgingly concede we were favourites to win, which would have put us ahead of Arsenal with two games in hand on them too.

Of course he and we would rather have played the games and won the points, but looking at the table now, there's a whole heap of hope.

Its nor far off, but with a few more automisations.

We've struggled in nearly every game.

Don’t think he is wrong, I said this not long ago. The football has been decent in small patches, just like it was under Jose and even Nuno. The creativity comes from the front 3, still have two defensive midfielders etc same as before. We haven’t played good football, and haven’t dominated any game. Just that people are more accepting of it because it is Conte….

Disagree. The players are the same so there will be overlaps but the back 3 appear to have been actually coached and know what they are doing and the full-backs/wing-backs have instruction to actually attack and push forward rather than sit tight in a back 5. There is still a lack of creativity in the middle but we have players trying to move the ball forward better there as well.

There are times we invite too much pressure but it isn't particularly comparable to the dire stuff from Jose after game 6 onwards and almost all of Nunoball.

Crystal Palace had ten men for an hour and eleven v eleven was very even.Fair on Watford although playing one of the worst teams in the league who just had a back 8 for most of the game I would hope we would. We really haven’t been very good, more solid? Sure. But had this been Jose or Nuno performances for example, we wouldn’t be seeing such defence of what is at best average performances against average opposition…..

Think people are getting confused and think we should be playing like city or liverpool. That's not contes style, we're not a possession team.

We also need some better players in some positions. Yes we've made hard work of some games and were dominated by chelsea. But so far i'm pleased. Think it can get better.

The defence is the first thing he works on. If you are solid and not conceding then you are not losing games. The rest will come, give him at least a couple of windows to get players in to suit what he wants.

There was quite a bit of optimism and positivity under both Mourinho and Nuno, as long as results went our way at least.

I think there has been real improvement both with our buildup play and our defensive cohesion. Our ability to break down teams still leaves a lot to be desired, but that's also a very difficult thing to do.

Even? They had 1 weak shot at that point and were still way down on possession. They offered more at the end of the game than they did with 11 player

we’re back to the old doom mongering post event again

Asides from the Chelsea game aren't our chance creation numbers way up? as are our distance covered numbers. I'd have thought anyone who watches football on the reg would be able to see how better coached the players seem to be wrt tactics/gameplan on and off the ball - i know everyone's entitled to their opinion but struggling with the idea we don't look any different than under Nuno

    Scary isn’t it
It’s not like contes come in and we have set a club record for a start by any manager
Fans need to isolate crap cup games from the league
