Worst pundit or commentator

Who did Barry Davies, John Motson, Des Lynam or James Richardson etc support?

I don't know about Barry Davies, I think I read Des Lynham was a Brighton fan and I'm sure James Richardson support AS Roma, poor old John Motson was a fan on a north London club in Harringay, 3 of them no longer cover football and come from a pre Sky era when the game was important not individuals on TV.

Why do they need to know anything about that to provide intelligent discussion about what's happening on the pitch?

I disagree with the notion that someone who hasn’t played the game can provide better insight and analysis than someone who as actually played at the highest level. Not saying they can’t provide good analysis, but it’s not the same IMO.

If I am listening to someone analyse events and speak about them, I want to listen to someone who has spent their career getting really good at analysing events and speaking about them.

That is an entirely different and unrelated skillset to being able to run fast and kick a football.

I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in what Joe Cole has to say. The most interesting thing we could get from him would be a short documentary on learning to tie his own shoelaces as an adult. I have no interest whatsoever in what Alan Shearer or Michael Owen have to say. Unless they have the aforementioned skills to properly analyse, structure and present their thoughts, then anything that does go through their empty minds is of no worth at all.

Fair enough. I’d rather listen to people who have actually played the game personally.

I don’t mean to be all politically correct but why?

And I’m not having a pop but I hear this a lot with very little about what they actually say being used as the reason they shouldn’t be commenting on the men’s game.

I honestly find the female pundits no worse than the men. I know Eni Aluko gets an awful lot of stick and she’s had a few brainfarts (like Kevin Keegan and Bobby Robson before her to name but two) but I have found her quite insightful at times.
I don't have an issue with women officiating games, and although I think it's pretty awful, I don't have an issue with them playing, however it just irritates me hearing female pundits. Hearing a woman commentator screeching really is horrible, and should be banned
